Live mullet throw bait rig

So gents with grinders and braid taking over our sport and anglers hardly ever slide baits out, how would you go about rigging a mullet to be able to throw it onto that bank at the back where you know that kobbie is waiting? Any ideas on this? I prefer to fish circle hooks for kob on my live baits, I just need to figure out how to put that longer shot out whilst keeping my bait on the hook

A 30/40 meter throw with a live Mullet is more than ample for a Kob or Leerie. Night for the Kob and early morning for the Leeries. Morning can also produce a Kob. With singles pin the hook point facing the head, top of head, just behind head. Avoid pining hook point facing tail as the point sometimes gets embedded into the flesh which will result in a miss hook.

Not sure what size mullet you'd like to get out there, but I love casting a mullet out, usually ends in a pull.
The sizes I like are from 10-20cm.
I push a cable tie through its eyes, tighten it.obviously not too much and hook the circle hook through the cable tie, make sure the cable tie is tight enough the hook cant cant come out the way it went in.
Hook my weight to circle, like a dangle

I always kept it plain simple and effective.

Almost sure that a cable tie through the eyes is extremely stressful for the livie, possible reducing it's livelyness ???. Not saying it won't work, so give it a try.

get some Dacron and a bait needle or piano wire. Google live bait bridle. This is the only way I fish with live mullets.

The only reason why I say keep it plain and simple for Live bait Throwing is the fish don't hang around all day most times and when the smash happens you wanna be as quick and effective as possible.

We used none of the fancy stuff, pop the livie in pinned behind the head, just behind the Shore break, near the river mouth. If the fish are there you will get the pull. The longer you take to rebait could just mean not getting your quota or nothing.

Another trick is to put a portion of toothpick under the skin and pin the hook under that, also works like a dream. Plain and simple.

Most Kob in Kzn are caught very close in, even Leeries are caught close in. It's the sliding technique that has made it a lot easier to keep a livie alive longer on the hook and also easy for literally anyone to catch a Leerie.

I would only slide if the livies are scarce and I want the best possible chance for a pull.

Mullet work well near a river mouth whereas a Shad Black tail or a Karranteen will work in rocy areas. The Shad is deadly anywhere for a Kob. Live Mozzies and Mackerel also work from the surf.

I am almost sure you will get Mozzies along the wharf sides in R/Bay. Dbn Piers, Addington...... Plenty Mozzies at night. Even the Mackerels put in an appearance. Now is the right time of the year for them.

Tight Lines guys hope you catch a couple!!!!

Im sure it doesnt last as long as other methods, but I've had livies on for over an hour and came back kicking if untouched.

Forgot to mention of course....
The cable tie isnt stuck into the eye itself.
You'll be using the bridge between the two eyes basically.
The cable tie goes through very easily above the eye and exits quite easily above the opposite eye.
Hope it makes sense
