First little boat

Hi guys. Been around on Sealine for a while and have to give so much credit to every one. Sealine has enabled me to gather some very valuable information. Any way I am considering buying a little boat. It must be a boat that I can learn from easy and hassle free. I will use it on dams and rivers originally, but will definitely upgrade to the sea, when I start feeling more comfortable. What do you guys think of this little boat. Positives, negatives, is the asking price in line. http://www.gumtree.co.za/a-boats-jet-skis/mosselbaai/ski-craft-14ft-with-2x30hp-mariners/1001446473620910017507809
Thanks in advance guys.

I saw this when it was posted on GT a few days back. Great little hull with a good pedigree, if all the bits and pieces check out, then go for it. Nice that the trailer is licensed... If you buy the boat, transfer the trailer into your name and keep it up to date.

You should have quite a lot of fun... but it won't be your last boat... That urge to upgrade becomes very strong so don't spend too much on the boat. One very seldom manages to break even when you sell.

I've never owned a Mariner but it is not in the same sort of problematic class like old Chryslers, Johnsons etc. But to be honest, at that price, you aren't going to get recent motors.

Ask the owner what the model and year is, then check up with your local agents.

Nice small boat.

Check the hull for water ingress. Looks like the boat has been looked after.

Main thing to check on the engines is compression, this can easily be done and will straight away let you know if the motors are ok. Even if they don"t sound too good as long as the compression is good the rest you can get sorted easy.

Although they are old the are good motors. Spares are available.

My own boat is 20 years old(motors as well) and I am very happy with mine.

Good luck and if you are happy go for it. Good choice for first boat.

the best advise is to do a water test!
put the boat through it's paces!
listen to the engines and feel the water coming out of the tell tale.

lyk na n nice bootjie
