Yellowfin on Jig in the Deep

Our Graphic Designer  for JigStar Africa is a super keen fisho, but has only ever jigged once before....

He managed to get a spot on a boat for the deep on Saturday, and I lent him a set up for his trip, a Jigging Master 3 Kings Special, and Alutecnos Gorilla 20 for the trip...

His second time jigging, and his first time in the deep ever, and he dropped one of our SW Labs Curved Slider jigs in Blue/Pink Mackeral pattern, and BANG!!!

55 kilo est Yellowfin on the jig... Boated the fish in under 20 minutes.... Not bad for a newbie!!

Congrats Ryan, super stoked and proud of you bro!!!

So apparently Yellowfin in the Cape don't eat jigs..... :fbash

Wow nepps! Awesome fish bru! We were out on saturday and may well have seen this guy go tight on that fish. Were they on a smaller centre consol? Thats the Maine in the background and we were on the same numbers at the time.

I'm effing gagging to get one of those on a jig and I reckon had we the gear, we might have come right. We had some very good marks under the boat.

They potential for catching yfin and lfin on jigging gear is wide open out there. I scheme we're just too bang to let go of our Tiagras!

Kraken - Not sure what the boat was , he was fishing on Des Kleinschmits boat.... Des is an amazing photographer ( cars mainly ) and was shooting on a Hasselblad H4 so the images are all 120 MG plus!!! Look forward to seeing the rest of the images....

Its lekker to see more and more of these fish coming to the jig... if we can get it done regularly, it would be an insane jig fishery!!!

Interestingly this fish was taken on a Long jig, and Yellowfin ( and tuna in general ) round the world seem to much prefer shorter flutter jigs, but this shows that on the right day, they'll hit a long jig fished FAST!!!

We've got the gear for it, but as you say, we just need to get more okes to let go of their precious Tiagra's and Profilers and bait, and chase them on jig... once you fish Jigging tackle on these fish, you'll find it hard to go back to the 50W's again, just too much fun on a super light, but insanely strong set up like good jigging tackle!!
One of our clients got a 75 kilo on Wednsday last week on a Gorilla 20 and JigStar Kojak 350 as well, but got it on bait... he was on a spearo charter with those Saudi boys, and wasn't supposed to be fishing, and ended up jumping between 3 boats to keep out of sight of the "bosses" and still landed the fish....

Nice one to your mate Andre.Nice fish that on a jig. Seems like the yellows were keen for jigs on Sat. Our mate Carel had 2 yellow hookups both on a squiddy jig. Lost the one but landed the other one of around 20kgs with a MH Trevala and a 4000 Daiwa Excellor. Nice light stuff for tuna.

I am specially stoked to see it happen on long jigs, I know Mark has been hiting them on small jigs.

Thanks Cadex for setting the record straight. Sorry i havent posted the picture of you and the fish but as you know its a messy one with blood and a gaff in the fish. Wont make for very good viewing on this thread.

Mark what weight are those jigs of yours in the pic?
