Many people can service reels by just cleaning, a relube and replacing parts, but there are very few I trust with tricky diagnoses when fine-tuning a reel. During a recent visit to his workshop,I met a young Cape Town angler who had the misfortune of snapping the tip of his reel's driveshaft inside the bottom bearing and needed the reel back ASAP !Without the replacement spare available on such short notice, Jonathan machined a replacement head out of s/s on his lathe and fitted it to the existing shaft to sort the reel in the shortest possible time. This shows the "old world craftsman" in him, unlike most that are just "part replacers". Have a look on his facebook page, the photo of this specific job tells the story. A few of us (all Sealine members), had a get together last night and Jonathan was invited, but duty called and he worked on reels till 23h00, missing out on the social action while we had a few nice wines and some Cuban cigars while he chose to sort out his customer's reels in the shortest time popssible ! While he was getting marine grease on his hands, we only managed to get some fat from the braai on ours - I salute you my friend !I met Old salt about 3 years ago, since then all my reals go to him even my friends drop there reels with after there reels were their for the first time!
All i can say is i do the 50km drive and i know i get what i want and what my tackle deserves!
