Hi guys recently received an email with this photo of fish that someone caught while fishing for crayfish... It loks very interesting and is almost Gurnard like? Any thoughts? WK

The last one looks very much like a young Red Steenbras. As for the first one, its hard to say. Maybe one of the many species of klipvis or blenny?

I can assure you that that is definitely not a monkfish!

The monkfish is as ugly as sin and makes the above fish look like some type of supermodel!

Search the net for a pic to see how shockingly ugly they are. But, you're quite correct, they do make nice eating!

The first one is klipvis. They get red over the kelp and deep reefs.

"That one. The Rohman feesh, hy soek hom!".

The second fish has been scaled but the peduncle seems slightly darker like it has a red steenbras spot.

Gotcha Barry,knew somebody would take the bait:fbash used to be a rugby-coach,long time ago.LOL and have a cousin that used to be a SA- body-builder,knew exactly what the rugby- players were using even as far back as then,even before testing was done.lol.
