Wayne's Record catch Dorado!

Hi guys, came across something interesting....

below is Wayne's record catch submission for the Dorado he caught off the oil rig in Angola. He estimated the length to be 1.3m... looking at that pic, it looks BIGGER than that. Nevertheless, from the ORI tables, Fork length is the determining factor, so if we estimate FL to be 120cm (and thats a conservative estimate!) and have a look at the ORI tables for the weight... it comes out at 46 kg.

Guess what the SA record is.... only 31kg! His catch klaps the record by 14-15 kg!

I scheme thats quite impressive for a handline and a porterhouse steak!!!:clap12

Hey Reef

An insanely large fish, no doubt, but I think those scales from ORI are slightly out...
From the record of a current pending world record for Dorado, a fish that measured 68 inches ( 172cm ) tipped the scales at 90lbs ( around 33 Kilos )...

If you look at that table, it claims a Dorado of 98cm will weigh 27 kilos.... Thats not possible! A dorado of a metre long will not even weigh close to 10 kilos... A 27 Kilo Dorado is more likely to be around the same length as Waynes fish...

Sorry to piss on your fire mate, but those Tables are well out I think, or we are both reading them wrong.

But, make no mistake, that fish of Wayne's is a BUS of note, and a true trophy... but if you were to put that fish next to a 46 kilo Kob, you'll see what I'm talking about....

I've been having lots of converstions with the guy who has developed the L-W programme for SAASA. There are problems in some of the tables. I'm going to be helping him sort out those that i can. If any of you have the opportunity to get measurments and ACCURATE weights of any fish and then find it doesn't correlate to the ORI tables let me know and i'll pass the info onto him!

WOW that truelly is an amazing fish, man you are SO lucky to be fishing those virgin waters from an oil rig, wish I had the opportunity. Just to change the subject slightly, can I have pointers as to how to qualify for sealine records?I assume a witness, picture and measurements? I see from the latest excel spreadsheet records table that there are various records open or unclaimed and I would love to submit some records and pictures for everyone to enjoy

I also work offshore in Angola and have caught quite a few Dorados over 1.3m and they have def not been close to 40kg, much closer to 30kg, so i def think that those Ori tables are way out!!

Dorado one the best eating fish around!!

Yep, agree with ORI tables not on par with the length of the dorado.
Caught a bull Dec 2006 off Kei Mouth. Appr 105cm, and weight was 14,67kg! Maybe they are fatter in Angola.
My tipe of fish, now I don't feel too bad.
My weight to length is probably more in line with a poensie.

Awesome catch. Wonder if his measuring tape was working?
