OK, to settle this question. Yes, machining a mould from sold aluminium only costs R1500. Digitising the spoon to generate a drawing would however cost R4000.

I got all pricing from a company called Precision Engineering. Actually they are clients of mine.

Hi Bennie, I was thinking about trying to make a mould out of a hard wood and getting the mould layser cut in, then giving it a coat of firespoof paint. DO you think that would be ok to make lead spoons with ?

I don't really know. I think it wold be ok for one or 2 rough casts but... When you pour hot tin or lead into a wood cavity, the air in the wood expands and causes the lead / tin to bubble as the air tries to escape. You end up with a terrible surface finish that requires a lot of work to get half decent.

Will give the mold max a try!

What is your opinion on making and using lead spoons ?
Lead is much easier to get hold of.
Is it possible to order white metal from somewhere ?

I see you are in Durban... I need some tin and so does Andre Laas. I will organise us some white metal this week. Don't wast your time with lead...

Hi,
Only place I can find is JHB. They will ream you in Durban but you can try Macsteel.
I do have some. Willing to sell it to you at cost. I have cast small ingots already that weight around 100 grams. Just let me know what you want or you are welcome to collect from me. Works out R300 per kg.
