STITCHED BRAID LOOP

To eliminate knotting braid I've switched to a stitched loop as knotting your braid will decrease your braid breaking strain by up to 40%.

Stitching the braid keeps it at between 90-100%

1st step select a sewing needle suitable for the braid diameter.

Fold the braid back on itself and proceed to make 20+ stitches 2-3mm apart filling the needle with all stitches

Pull the tag end through and lock the loop in place by pulling the stitching tight

This can now be used with a Bristol knot for a leader or a Spyker knot or a catspaw loop to loop connection.

Each of these connection locks the loop in place and with the stitch the connection keeps 100% of it's breaking strain.

A bit late this question but do you think you need to knot the tag end of the loop around the braid at all? On Paulus's site, when he stitches two lines together, he uses an eight turn uni on the tag ends.

Some say yes but I found at times that the breaking strain reduced when you do that.

However once you use the loop to catspaw or to do a uni both the legs are locked in place.

You can then even pull the loop apart and because there is no knot in the braid it keeps it's 100% breaking strain

Thanks for the reply.

I was going to attach the braid backing loop to my mono top shot with a Bob Sands or Spyker Knot rather than a uni though. Any thoughts as to which is best of the three?

On all the tests we did the Bob Sands with a stitched loop gave 90-110% of breaking strain and never slipped. It is also a smaller more streamlined connection
