By the way, I still have the old skippers issued by the Dept of Transport in 1990. How do I go about converting it to the new licence?

My wife is a SAMSA theoretical examiner and I am a practical examiner, but Geoff in Cape town is the easiest option for someone in Cape Town.

Going direct to SAMSA, will just frustrate you.

We have done quite a lot of SADSAA conversions, but when it comes to the old DOT tickets, it is best to go to someone like Geoff who works with SAMSA every day.

What with the ?????????.

Geoff Hawkins surveys small craft for SAMSA in Cape Town and has regular dealings with them. He dose this for a living.

We work through SADSAA as an authorised agent, but SAMSA is the controlling authority.

Some of the old DOT tickets were area bound and to upgrade them, you have to go to SAMSA, but the guys have battled.

Some advice Use it, dont use it.

Sorry Bennie, my staff made me grumpy.

When we apply for someone's skippers, we go through our " head office" and they then forward it to SAMSA in Pretoria.

This process takes a while, as the applications are sent in batches.

Some individuals were appointed as direct SAMSA agents and they deal directly with SAMSA regional offices.

They know exactly what SAMSA wants and which forms to submit. That speeds the process up.

Geoff does Skippers, for SAMSA, Boat surveys ( COF and LGSC ) and radio licences.

I have done some 200 of the 15 and 40 mile Skippers to date and the waiting period from SAMSA can be up to a year, after all the documentation has been submitted.

They are innundated with the R and inland waters applications.

What does it look like and who was it issued by ?

If it was issued by and authorised agent, it should be valid.

If it was the one signed by Prinsloo, it is a legal SAMSA certificate.

The law says that you have to be in posession of a certificate of compitance, issued by an authorised agent.

If you were compitant then, you are compitant now, unless you have gone blind, or you suffer from some other debilitating disease.

Some institutions had a clause on their COC that stated that if you resigned from that institution, the COC will be invald. That is wrong, becuase you were tested and found to be compitant. How can you become less compitant, by resigning from a club ?:spite
