Ok, my mission for Friday is to catch a skippy on fly. This new faux buck tail is cool for closers and surf candy's.

"you should have been here yesterday", yeah, i am tired of yesterday! Almost came tight on fly, they had their spectacle glasses on yesterday and only wanted to eat live bait. I had 4 come very close to eating, but they all turned away at the last minute. The live bait the fishermen were using were these small orange baitfish, so i also did not have the right fly....next time!

Dr. try this one:

Skippies are around 5- 7 kg, some big ones in between, lost a brand new lure on my first cast with the spinning rod, just too much fish for PE 0.6.

The fish were just not eating on Friday, some days they are crazy and will take anything, but when there is not much bait around they are super hard to catch on lure or fly.

We had a very good run this past season. Great fun on an 8 wt.

Sick! No permission to see your albums again boet..

BTW you try the coffee/chip packet mylar fly yet?

Check on "handmade fisherman's" channel on youtube. Easy peasy to make or adapt to a fly, used to make a similar one when I was a kid to sightcast (on a 7 weight!) for barbel. This season was very effective against katonkel and used in past on cob, shad and the target mackerels.. Katonkel would not leave it alone, sure the bonnies would be the same, even had my PB slinger jump on the string while a big katonkel was swimming the sabiki around the boat..

Tied a string last season with a different sabiki on each hook, coffee packet mylar, feathers, flashabou, glow in the dark sheet etc..The coffee packet was the clear winner with fish jumping on that, put on a string then to test with all mylar sabikis and pulled up a whole string of razor shads who went back, dropped again and pulled up a whole string of snot cobbies, released them and went to a new spot haha..anyway that it works was sold for me..This season with no real gamefish around, I made one with four mylar feathers on 5/0 hooks for the katonkel to have some fun.. only had one day with them wild to throw at them, but eish it was fun..

Next season hope the fish fire..otherwise I have to pull out the flyrods and tie some katonkel treats..A man needs his kicks somehow! Must be an absolute blast!

Damn, Skippy on a 8WT must be fun.

Dr Halibut how could I post something in the fly fishing section that I caught on a coffee packet...haha, will have to give it a try; however these Skippy's have PHD's over here and they will soon see through the ruse.

You wont believe how life like that little piece of plasticised foil is..looks just like an anchovy in the water..a string of em just wants to get eaten haha..

Cadex, hows the fishing in Papamoa?

Fishing here is tailor made for fly fishing, slow pitch jigging, spinning, straylining...all sorts. This also one of the few places in the world that you can wade and fly fish for YT (Kingfish). Over summer I've experienced work ups that lasted over an hour, often I am on it boat alone.
So yes..fishing is great
