Rod and Reel combo on a budget

Good day

I am looking to buy a rod and reel combo for R1000. I live right next to Klaserie dam and would like to fish there more often.

I have been looking at the Adrenalin Blixem series in rods and reels.

What do you think? Do you have any other suggestions?

Thank you

Are you planning on using it for conventional angling?

Well both actually. Specimen and conventional.

My personal opinion is that the rod will be fine but the reel definitely won't last in the long run. If you can up your budget a tad, have a look at the Okuma CB-80 reel.

Thank you very much. I actually did look at that reel. Do you have any rods you recommend around R500.

I really appreciate the help.

A tad over your budget but these are good rods

These are also a good option

For that price depending on your casting the Shimano Alivio 3.5lb rods are amazing rods for the price. They are a little bendy/slap for serious casting but are really good rods I see they are R525 at ganis BUT make sure you get the ALDX12350 the 3lb rods are way too bendy to cast anything with. I have a set that I use for my Specimen fishing and I won't swop them for any other expensive rods. But i don't do allot of casting when specimen fishing.

I do see that the adrenalin blixems are only rated for 3lb then in my mind the 12ft 3.5lb alivio is an 100% better pic.

Else for a 10ft at R500 look at the Shimano Techniums. They come with 2 tips a ligter and a heavy tip

This reel is not a baitrunner. Is that a problem?

How "slap" is the barbarian rods?

Not at all, to be honest that all baitrunners reels are trash except Shimano and maybe some top end Daiwa's. Stick to normal grinders, big pits if possible. There's less that can go wrong and my personal opinion is that baitrunners make for lazy anglers.

If you gonna cast as well I think it better to get at least A 3.5 Test Curve rod like the Aliveo. Reels is unfortunately A "buy cheap you buy expensive" situation. The small cheap reels are just not good enough for big carp (sure you can catch a big carp with small cheap reels if you want to try, but you will change your mind after you loose the first big one), but you can catch small carp with A big pit reel. I cant suggest anything less then the popular brand entry level big pits, they will cast better then the normal reels aswell. Bairunners are nice bit You dont need A baitrunner, the baitrunner system is A very expensive part of the reel, you can buy A much better quality non baitrunner reel for the same price.
