Rock and Surf

Hello all sealiners!

I joined sealine today because I have been reading posts for a very long time and learned a lot.

Recently I purchased a brand new setup

Reel:Shimano Saragosa 25000
Rod: Okuma Makaira 14.6 ft

I want to focus on non-edibles mainly( like pylies/sharks) but edibles are always welcome!

Are there any tips on spooling the saragosa 25 000?( Newbie to braid/topshot/straight mono or straight braid)

- What braid/MONO? ( Looked at whiplash/Boss braid and hmp but read on sealine that the diameter is not the same as indicated for whiplash)

- What determines the lb of braid that you would use?
50 /65/80/100 ?

- How would you guys spool this reel for my application?

- If you add a decent mono topshot, would you be able to slide big baits ?

I know these are a lot of questions and I probably posted this in the wrong section, but would GREATLY appreciate any advice as I am very new to rock and surf.

Looking forward to suggestions and tips.

Regards & Tight Lines

Well, looking back at this post, inexperienced and practically clueless was definitely the case.

So I had to take it upon myself to learn and gain experience.

After numerous failures ( making poor quality steel traces, learning knots from scratch, bait presentations, poking myself a few times with hooks) I finally got the basics in check.

Then after blanking a few times and spending ample hours at the beach, asking questions and observing other anglers, I stepped up my game substantially (traces, bait, technique, fitness etc.)

I landed this beautiful female Bronzie.

Persistence/perseverance is key. Lekker man.

Hi there Ruan, kindly share your setup that you have settled on for the rest of us to learn. Basically the questions you asked above ito braid line etc. I am super experienced with the old conventional methods but finally switching to grinder set up, but want to get it right from the start. Also like the 25000 Saragosa, that lekker to fight a big bronzie with?
