Rebuilding a 14ft spinning rod to casting rod

I’ve decided to rebuild my Blue Marlin carp rod into a light casting rod with which I can cast baits/lures of around 2-4oz. The rod has been gathering dust in my garage for nearly ten years now and I’ve decided that it’s too good a blank to waste. I’ll probably be using it with a Torium 14 or Calcutta 400 and 30lb braid.

My first obstacle is the reel seat. I want to move it from “A” to “B”. It’s a Fuji reel seat so I don’t want to destroy it but from previous rods that I’ve bisected I know they glue these things to the rod via some carton like substances. Any advice how I can move it without damaging it or my rod?

DPJ, unless the reel seat is already loose you will most likely have to cut it off. You can try twist it but remember if you are applying to much force you risk damaging your blank. When rebuilding a rod I normally cut through the back of the seat and use a big flat screwdriver to pry it open before slipping it off.

Thanx, well unlucky for me the rod was well built so its still as solid as the day I got it. I'm just thinking new braid guides and real seat is going to put me just as far back as a new rod....ish decisions.

After some consideration I decided to keep it a spinning outfit, I'm just going to replace the guides and grip with heat shrink if I can find some in CT.

Here's an idea, why not just put a second reel seat at the base, (where you want to move the current one to) so it will then have 2 reel seats, and it can be a rock and surf/spinning combo rod. best of both worlds, lol
