what sort of fish would you be targeting with this rod i think that will make the difference when choosing the reel you want to put on?

The reason for this is 400/2 is a reasonably light stick and the tn 30 well its tops but if you are goingto target mainly edibles then why not go with the tn 20 much more balanced i feel.

at our last comp we had a speaker there who spoke verry highly about the purglass rods.i share his ssentiments as well.as a one piece they are verry good i have owned most purglass exec 400/0 400/1 400/2/3/4 and also a three piece 400/3

they are verry good rods.the three pieces im not so happy with their joints are not the best i feel.i did speak to the owner and builder of the rods garth and he has said that they will evntually change the joins but in not sure if they will be as strong as the more popular brands.but the straight pieces are dam good light strong and sufficiant pulling for both types of fishing.

if you want to target both eds and non eds then i suggest the 400/3or /4 and the tn 30 verry nice all round package in the purglass range.

cheers riymos

Howzy Attie!

I second Riymos on the Purglas rods.  I've been fishing with the 400/2 +3 for about 5 years now with no grief whatsoever, thats for edibles and non edibles.  I've seen Purglas rods break but that's due to neglect and abuse i.e. dropping the rod, banging the rod.

As for the reel and rod combo, i would suggest you go with what you are comfortable with.  I'm negotiating with the wife (Min. of Finance) for a Torium 30 for the 400/3 for non edibles. Used that combo b4 and it just felt damn comfortable.  Only got a 15kg Bronzie but the tackle handled excellently.

I just typed a Sh@t load and my internet connection died........:swear:swear:swear

As i was saying Your profile is kinda empty. So if you in Cape Town let Sean F make your rod purglass stroke 3 i suggest. My mate has one and its light. because it is custom made there is more attention to detail and care taken when being made, unlike in a factory where they mass produce. Upside you can put Fuji reel seat and guides on. I don't have a custom made rod but if i knew then what i know now i would have made me a custom rod than to buy it in the shop

Attie,
Purglas are damn good rods, for edibles and decent size non-edibles, the 400/2 should be fine. Stick to the one pice rods, they're lighter and stronger.
I would look for a custom built Purglas blank rather than buy the factory version,
Lucky's @ Manaba make decent Purglas custom rods, I hear Gremlins does as well.

As for reels, the Trinidad 30 is a great reel, my personal pref would be a Saltist 50H.
Both will do fine.

Nope. it's the 227 kg one. You're looking at a WP record fish there! With a Purglas 400/3 if I'm not mistaken, eh Weeds?
