private messaging

i would like to bring it to everybodies attention that PMs are not as private as you may think...my intention is not to "stir" but merely make the public aware.

up until yesterday i had no idea that it was possible for admin and moderators to read our private messages...in fact some froums have it setup in a manner that every pm is flagged before it is forwarded to the intended person.

depending on the website design it is just merely an add on...others you dont even need and addon...it is a setting which just requires a tick...so technically speaking anything is possible...how ever in stating this fact...it is frowned upon for websites admin to do this.

i believe we have a right as the public to know if all our private messages are being read or flagged...

just think if you are a bussiness and customers are sending you enquiries...banking details...contact details via PMs..if the admin and moderators have access to your PM and they are selling the same products as you...they could intercept your PM and contact the customer directly....mmmm got me thinking.

for the record i have not spoken to sealines admin about this issue...but maybe they could verify my statements...and advise us as to how the PM system is setup here.

eish! there is no conspiracy on Sealine bud! But i understand your question!

the only person that can get access to your pm's is Emperor, and the only time a pm will be read is if there is a issue going on that is not in line with Sealines rules and code of conduct! But this happens very seldom!

Eish....so the nudepics of myself and Minki got intercepted...LOL!

herman i also found this rather amusing but unfortunelty...it seems i cracked open a can of worms...by thread #15 on one of the other sites everyone was LOL but by thread #17 suddenly fishton "aka" john easton turned it around and sent me a warning...the owner of the website went off doing some serious research and posting threads to explain everything in detail...to a point that i no longer have access to the website...from an LOL i seem to be the only person  ::rofl: now.

what started out as a simple yes or no question.

i still believe we have a right to know...as you can see by the response from the sealine moderator thats all it took...there was no need to get all defensive.

cranky AKA Ian Stanley - You were warned because you were stirring and not adding any value to the forums.

If you carry on along these lines I wouldn't be surprised if you get a warning here too. ;)

Please keep issues from other forums away from Sealine! We will not tolerate things spilling over here!

please take this as the first and last friendly warning!!!

I must say it always makes me smile when as I'm reading and scrolling down to the next post suddenly this avatar appears of this Policeman holding his bat with the red writing that follows... Excellent... ::respekt: Sort of here comes 'Judge Dredd' from 2000 AD...

Cranky thanks for that, very interesting...

I don't think Emperor has the time to sit around reading every one's private messages, there are ways to keep things private if you want it to be private.

If there comes a dispute and who said what as proof is required then that info can probably retreived. Just makes it somewhat easier to protect some.

None of us have time to sit around reading anyone's junk - you should see the quantatiy of PM's I get - 99% of them are absolute HOGWASH - I don't even get around to reading one's that matter - I read normally the first 3 lines if they donot make any sense - "DELETE"

another example of why i asked this question about pms and dont think it is a laughing matter...the last time i posted a picture of my kickboat on the public froum...within days it had been copied almost exacltly the same to a point that people where phoning me to ask me about it...because it was advertised at twice the price...so now we send pms with details regarding the kickboats...so i was curious to know how private these messages are.

Sealine's policy is no commercial advertising through general forum threads - Sealine is a free forum that genterates it's income from advertising to keep the forum going.

Normally any commercial advertising of products and websites are deleted from the threads and the poster concerned is sent a PM - so if you want advertising space on Sealine - pay for it.

I think it is highly unlikely that this posted would have been copied and the price doubled - what does Sealine have to gain out of this.

Please pm me the links to these threads as I suspect that there is some stirring going on here...... (I believe Fishton has indicated this is happening on other forums with the same individuals.)
