Port St Johns Estuary Fishing

Hi guys

I would appreciate some guidance and advice. Im fishing the estuary in Port St Johns, during June and would like to target Garrick and Kob on both artificial and live bait. I will be fishing off my boat in the estuary. Any advice on how productive the middle of June is for these species?

Which month would you suggest for Garrick and Kob in the estuary (June/July or August)? Any advice on specific areas in the estuary where we should be focusing our efforts?

Thanks guys and tight lines!!

I never fished off a boat and mostly fished October/November with good results. I think June/July would be even better for big Kob and Grunter.
We caught a lot of Garrick and Kob during those months I think it depends on the weather conditions more than anything else.
The Garrick we caught anywhere along the banks of the river not just in the mouth. Wait for the tide to push and the clean water to come in and be ready with some live mullet and you will definitely get some Garrick and Kob.

Tight lines.

Thanks VB,

I think Aug- Oct seem to be the best months overall.

Any specific traces? What time of day did you catch?

Thanks for your help :)

No real specific traces! For Grunter a small sliding weight with some sand or mud prawn as bait.
The Grunter we caught mostly at night when the tide comes in, the Kob and Garrick anytime day or night tide depending! If the tide comes in so does the fish although we were there one November and the river mouth was full of Garrick and we caught them on any tide...they were chasing mullets all over.
Where will you be staying?

Awesome, thanks for the info.

We are looking at the Spotted Grunter or Cremorne. Have you stayed in either of these? Any recommendations?

Thanks man, appreciate all your input.

How is the fishing (Grunter, Kob and Garrick) in front of the resort?

Since we have a boat we are able to travel but at night, we would want to target kob and grunter in front of the resort.

Any other tips and advise? :)

Regards,
S
