Does anybody know if you need additional safety equipment for your skiboat launching at Ponta? Stories go round that you need additional LIFE RING, TELESCOPIC HOOK AND EMERGENCY RATIONS over and above you RSA requirements. Is this true for Cat B and Cat C skiboats? I am going there for the first time with family Jun-Jul'16 and dont want to be caught with my pants down. Any help guys.

Hi Serra, thanks for your list. A number of those things are clearly intended for what I would equate with a CAT C twin motor setup. But what is the situation as I am a CAT D single engine boat setup. Is there a different list as a lot of that stuff is in duplicate for a purpose i.e because of the twin motors. What do they mean by spare engine in case of single motor? In SA you need to carry paddles as its recognized that its not possible to cram another motor on our 14.6 as there might be stability issues and also why they limit nautical range. Also on the fire extinguisher - I thought the validity was worked out as max of 1 yr from date of last service. How is it possible to get a minimum validity of 12 months? Thanks in advance for any advice you can give...

Remember you are in Mozambique - you are a visitor, do NOT think that the rules are the same as SA for boats. Sometimes, they might even check if your extinguishers were serviced in the last 6 months, the inspectors are rather sticky and tuff on SA Boats.

I have not seen too many single engine powered boats doing fishing, anyway for surf launching it's rather stupid to do it with a single engine - safety first.

Depends who looks, last month at Barra the guy only wanted to see that we had the SA 2016 cof certificate, that's all.

Rather be prepared than take the chance

Nothing spoils a holiday more than being fined and not being able to use your boat.

All it takes is one inspector who is on the ball and its game over

Have fun

Agreed, just make sure to take what you need according to regulations and you are sorted.

Having a friendly attitude also helps and if you treat the locals with respect normally the same will be shown to you.

Good day everyone, we are back from Ponta Malongane and it was better than expected. No hassles on the border, no hassles with boat registration and fishing licenses, no hassles with the sandy road (2x4 vehicle), no officials harassing you, nowhere ripped-off. Maybe we were just lucky with all of those mentioned. We weren't lucky with good weather and good catches. But despite all we got a few fish from the boat which we could eat. We caught YFT, Dordo, Kakaap Bluefin Kingfish and Cobia. From Shore it was dead quiet.

Must visit again to explore more in 2017.

Good news, thanks for reporting back, glad you enjoyed it. See it's better being prepared - then you can expect less hassles. Well done
