PHOSPHUR in the waves in False Bay

This awesome event is taking place in False Bay currently.

Not a fish in the surf..

That said, my chokka bait came out untouched after an hour.

Dropped it into my water bucket and it lit up to a beautiful blueis/green hue..

Anyone else experienced it be4

Yip, always awsome to watch...but depressing for the fishing....until I saw a 10kg kob come out in that water.

I have personally never caught anything in that water.

If I recall it is some sort of a phytoplankton andif disrupted results in a bioluminescence blue colour... Remember watching a program on it a while back.

Yip, also believed that rumour at one point. Until we had an elf smash in that water one evening in the bay. Later the diamond rays came around.

Myth busted.

yip observed this Sunday morning at about 4am when a buddy and I wished False bay. AN AMAZING SITE.

My bait was untouched but my buddy landed a beaut of an Elf.

We'll have to wait for some serious wind to disperse this 'phosphur'

I fished Palletjies and all baits came out untouched..NOT even crabs would surface to a floated bait.

Truely an amazing site to see tho.

Looked like this @ 20h15 when i left

Interesting comment on the elf and phosphorous water.
We had an elf smash of note a couple of times in phosphorous water in Knysna Lagoon.

Was there on Saturday night, and some fish did come out in the phosphor water. If the fish is there it will eat. I've caught the all time dik geelbek off the boat a couple of years back in phosphor water. You could see the shoal of fish coming to the boat and chasing baitfish. So the fact that BB blanked.....well I'm sure he blanked in perfect conditions before

Stormchild I've heard of the bek going mad in that kind of water too. Seems like the PE guys have have much more luck though in these conditions

Hi Stormchild

I remember hitting geelbek on a chukkie about 20 years ago in glowing water.

It was trippy. I could hardly fish. I would stare down into the water as the guy next to me was saaaging a fish up.

This was also on the Oostewal side.
