Now that its winter, I'll be spending far more time on the rocks.

I'm not liking my current setup. At 1st I used my Blue Marlin 12ft rated 3-4 ounce. For throwing spoons, its superb. But I really struggled to lift 2kg Elfs over rocks and adding to that, throwing a half pillie or whole crab plus 3/4 ounce sinker is a NIGHTMARE.

Then I started using my assassin and 14ft Blue Marlin when visiting the rocks. It was a huge improvement, getting much better casting distance etc, but the problem now is they are too long and the blue marlin too heavy.

I now know exactly what I want. Unfortunately I have no clue what options are out there. I want a 2 piece 12ft, preferably HMG. Does that even exist? Something 6-8ounce rated as I want to throw a whole pilchard or half mackie with ease. Obviously, casting distance is number one priority. Number 2 priority, lightweight but strong.

Thanks guys

Consider the Penn Powerstick Pro Surf 12'.
They are Graphite, and are 12' Three piece, rated 4 - 7 Oz.
(Three tips)

Check with Kumz, he got one a while ago that he used for a comp recently.

Hey DD

I havent fished with much rods in my lifetime.

Currently my "heavy stick" is a poseidon 5 in a 14ft. Comes with a light med n heavy tip.

The light tip can handle a pilchard and 4-5oz sinker

Medium tip can handle a pilchard and 5-6oz sinke

With my heavy tip I casted up to 8oz grapnels for sliding

I find it just right for me. There are lighter rods out there that I've felt, but it just doesn't feel "steewig" enough for me.  but this rod has ALOT of backbone and pulling power.

They do come in 13ft also which could be perfect for you...

Shot guys.

So its... Penn powerstick, shimano 11ft, and poseidon 13ft on the list so far.

Marthin, what is the name of the shimano rod? U.S, does that poseidon come in 13.0ft or 13.6ft?

I like walking into Commercial Marine knowing exactly what I want. Because if I am unsure, I'm kinda like my girlfriend in a clothing store. I'll walk out with bags full of unnecessary sh1t!

I think you want a Blue Marlin T53 G2 3-4oz. Can cast 6oz (4oz + whole pilchard) with a smile or maybe the 4-6oz which will cast up to 8oz ie 6oz weight and whole pilchard. 2 Piece.

The T53 blank is available in 2 piece versions and in 12' or 13'

If you want you can go with T24, better priced but go up on the rating ie in this case 4-6oz or 6-8oz (vs the T53 recommendations above)

Aaaah. Here is my thread. Dont think I will be getting much response in this forum but anyway.

Thanks Enigma. Are those rods you mentioned available off the shelf? Are they not custom? Sorry, I'm not clued up, I only bought 3 rods in my life.

DD - most Sealiners use the RECENT button (under Menu) - when you click this button, all the most recent posts come up in sequence of when they were posted. That is the recommended method of browsing Sealine. Those who only browse their beloved Saltwater section are missing out on 3/4 of the content of Sealine.

Also just hit the recent button once and once on that page bookmark the sealine recent page and place the icon on your browser bar and you can go straight to sealine recent straight out of google

They should be available off the shelf. Where in PE thought I wouldn't know. they are available in spinning and multiplier configurations on the Blue Marling price list.

I do also make them as custom builds

Keep the words Loomis & Franklin in mind as well, I've got a couple of their rods and they really impress me. Best bet will be to go to a tackle shop that stocks them, handle them all and then start looking for someone with such a rod and beg a cast from him/her

Look at the Purglass Range. the 350/4. Check the Purglass website and contact them. They can build a rod for you to your specs

For what you want here I'd go with the /3, I think the /4 will be to heavy.

The /2 is probably the best Purglas scratching range that they have.

DD,

Trying to find the correct rod for yourself becomes a nightmare at times.I purchased a new Poseidon HMG,6/9oz two weeks ago, sameday I went to the beach with a 8oz sinker to feel its strength.

I was very happy with its performance.(If I wasn't the supplier would have said "sorry for u"...

It cost R3395.00 a lot of people will say its very expensive but I can no longer afford the Assassin or Gremlins range of rods.

Before all the tackle shops use to let you use their demo model BUT that has longtime fallen away.(for most shops)

I personally would only buy the Purglas ONE PIECE rods which I have but sometimes becomes a transport problem.

The best bet is to borrow or use your friends rods and get some idea what suits your style of casting,ect.....

We as fisherman all have favourites whether it be rods, reels, hooks and line.

Most of the time I have made up my mind of what equipment I want and that was by borrowing friends equipment.

small bit of advice...
