Flip-Up guides should all be shot at dawn with blunt pistols.

Older Exage's were cool, new ones that are BUILT ON THE SAME BLANKS as the old models and now come with flip up guides.... hmmmpf.
Go on, ask my what size running guides I use on my 12' DC 2-5 that is paired with an Ultegra 14000XSC...
20/16/12/10/8/8/8/8 & 8 tip top. And that is for a Vaalie style high reel seat set up with the reel at 580mm from the butt.

Sies !!
Nice guide layout.

I am forcing myself to learn bottom reel casting, for bait fishing...
I cannot spin with a low reel, so the rod has one removable reel seat for when I soak a bait.

Came out looking very nice!!!! Did the dec.wrap thing for a while, but once you start doing this as a business full time with repairs in between you dont get time for it. People also dont realise how much time you put into a wrap and expect to pay very little or nothing at all!

Thats the truth. The effort put in is never rewarded. Alas, I just like doing it as a therapeutic device...lol! Seeing it materialise and closing up gives me pleasure. Gotta keep it clean though, im not a fan at all of all the colours etc and prefer to incorporate it subtley with black and some metallic. Changing it up just a touch.

But yeah, people are not prepared to pay the cost.

Standard guide layout on a multiplier reel down UK 13' rod is 30, 25, 20, 16, 12, 12, 10, 10 and a 10 tip. Some people use 12's instead of 10's.

Standard guides are fine (BOG or BNAG's) and offer no advantage over K's unless you want to use a grinder that is. If K's offered a distance advantage then the tournament casters would use them:they like those PacBay ones with the metal liners because they are lightweight.

As far as I know Century surf rods and specifically their tournament rods are fitted with Fuji Titanium frame K Series.
They are silly light.
Tip recovers faster.

Correct Tackleholic they are but that is so you can use the rod with a grinder if you want. It means Century don't have to make two versions of the rod.

Of course titanium helps the rod recover quickly but it doesn't matter what guide type it is it will still be lighter if it is titanium. If you want light then get those PacBay Minimas I mentioned:I think they do titanium now too. They will probably groove though as they have metal liners.

Fuji's Ti frames are not available in MN and or N frames, so if you want Titanium frames and the quality that goes with Fuji your choices suitable for a tourment rod in Titanium are: K Series including the RV's, possibly the new LRV's for runners and LC's

I wouldn't put a PACBAY guide on my own rod if you paid me.
Even a Titanium one.

Tackle-holic, why do you dislike Pac bay guides so much?

Are you angry with the manufacturer?

Not at all angry.
Just don't think they are good quality.
Frames are soft and ceramic rings not in the same league as Fuji.
Minimas, whilst light are not kind to line.
Pac Bay are selected from a catalogue in China and then made out to be a US brand and priced accordingly.

Hi Tackleholic

Been away so didn't reply earlier. Anyway there is a lightweight MN available in titanium (TLNSG)according to Mudhole:

http://www.mudhole.com/Fuji-Concept-Double-Foot-Light-Duty-Casting-Guides-Model-LN

I have some of these in the black stainless steel Alconite and the combined weight of 2x10's and 2x12's is only 3 grams. I can't see the titanium ones being much lighter.

The combined weight of 2x10's and 2x12's in the black stainless steel normal MN's is 4 grams by the way. The same combo in the double leg K's is 5 grams.

Except for light fine tipped rods would anyone notice the difference?

Amazing what you find to do on a wet afternoon isn't it!

Cheers

I am a nerd, I have to admit.
The LN's are possible in Titanium, but only up to a 16 and even then Fuji suggest them as "light duty" baitcasting rods basically.
Regarding would you notice?
You do, but you have to weigh up cost.
If you are feeling flush you could try these:
Fuji have new colours for Ti guides now too.

The LN's are pretty strong but I doubt whether they will take being dropped on rocks too well.

Hopefully Fuji will make the LRV's in stainless/Alconite soon.

Cheers
