Need a reel for my grand son's BlueFish Special (3-5oz) 13ft.

Oupa needs to fit a reel on the 13ft Bluefish Special, I know that the saragosa and spheros is best, but what about these? (prive for new in second column)

those BG are still work horses but, getting a bit outdated

I would just bite the bullet and buy the spheros 6k or even the 8k
It is very well sealed (Also go and read Alan Hawk's review on the new Spheros)

I had a BG, got it wet once and it started making noises
I had it serviced, sold it, and bought a spheros.

I do believe the spheros is a better reel and worth the extra R1000

You will have to service the BG more regularly

How much will he use it and what species will he target?

I'm thinking a Big Boss III 8000, R1400 at Billimoria. Spool it with 40lb braid and the kid will be more than well kitted.

DJP is correct. If you only use it once a year during your sea holiday..........you can get away with a cheaper reel.
(Just have it serviced after the holiday.)

The moment you start fishing once a month or more, thats where a more expensive reel starts paying off

Okuma cedros azores xp or metaloid cannot be under rated. They fish exceptionally well. Pop on a Quality 30lb braid around 300m and good to go. 6000 or 55 size is enough that's a light rod, little point in oversized reel
