Margate

The fish are all skrikking for the weather. They are hiding. I rekon that they will start to appear in the next day or so.

When you fish the margate stretch, PINK PRAWN is your friend.

Cut it down the back, fold it inside out and place alongside the line and hook. Then cotton on. I use 2 prawn at a time.

The lighter your rig, the better you will feel the bite and the "more appropriate" you will be able to strike. (braid changed my life)

I like to hold my rod sideways when scratching and then gently set the hook, rather than the monster strike I see so many people doing.

Hey guys, were yesterday evening about half an hour at Shelly-Ski Boat Club, after I threw 4 or 5 Sinkers that broke from my sinker line I called it a day.

This afternoon I went to the bay Shane showed on the picture, just left of where he was, I threw a float with sardine and twice something bigger than a shad turned around that tennis ball mouth open.

Well my time in Margate is almost finished, hope we have good weather on Friday! ;)

All good. If all goes well with my work tomorrow, I might even get some time off tomorrow night to take you for a shark off Jackals Beach. Shot for Shot.

Nice that you got home safe, stoked ekse !!

I fished at the little beach at the end of the dirt road in Margate today. I had some friends from Durbz and we went for a family day.

I was surprised to see many of the old timers from Ovongo fishing there, scratching around the rocks like teens.

I slid a caranteen, not much more action. SOme Shad came out around midday.

Tomorrow.

Howzit. Yea, I fished for Garrick and got my second one of the season. see post here

I then slid the head and gills at night hoping for Mr Johnny, but got stuffed around for 45 mins by a flatfish playing with it. I thought that he had swallowed it and struck and scared him off....... eish.

I actually just got back form Orange Rocks now, I slid a big caranteen,  but it was far too windy and even a 9oz would not grip. I then was casting half sardines with an 8oz nylon grapnel and it was a waste of time. At least I got smelly and full of salt.... lol

I have been pretty with work and have not fished as much as I would like to ---- but my friend.... the work is almost done and then I have a GLORIOUS 2 weeks off.

My friends from St Francis, are coming up to net sardines and they are probably the best fishermen that I know - so I hope to spend a few days with them in Scottburgh - STEALING WITH MY EYES.

Other than that all good.

Here is a picture of the 2 brothers that are coming up to net sardines Michael and Jonathan Hill.  Fishermen of absolute note.

Cheers

Hello Porkhead,

I haven't fished Margate in years but I'm very experienced in that area and I actually have a favorite spot there that I'll share with you.

To the south of Bird rock(Tidal pool), there's a bay, about 50 meters if I remember.
There's a higher rock on the edge on thee North side, a deep gully in front with a visible reef running North about 20 meters out.

Throw your anchor about 15 degrees south of the point of the submerged reef, clip on your livey or slide bait, pull your fish into the bay and out.

Caught dozens of garrick there over the years. There's also plenty of pools to keep your live shad in. At one time I used to keep my livies in the tidal pool overnight and castnet them out early in the morning.

That bay in your picture produces good daga at night with live shad clip on fishing from the North rocks(alongside Lee rocks to the South)

Howzit. Thanks bru. I have only slid a Mackerel off that point, never a livie. Was on a serious hunt for a big bronze bream, so have never targeted anything else along that stretch.

I am gonna go down there this week sometime, Orange Rocks is kinda unpleasant at the moment, so I will go and find some solace and hopefully a big fish there.

Thanks again for your kind advice. Cheers.

Here is an update on the repairs on Margate Pier.

This is a recent photo of repairs to-date.

I also published an article on the pier, with some photos taken during the storm, for those who are interested.

Lets hope that we are fishing soon, I am interested to see what comes out there after all this time.

Tight Lines.

How are you Garrick. All good this side, I just got back from JHB after another very successful trip. I can't believe how busy I have got. God provides.

I am looking forward to fishing this weekend, if the wind does what it is supposed to, we are in for a CRACKER.

Chat soon, hopefully I will have some Lekker pics to post.
