Main to leader knots

Hi guys

What knot would be the best to fix a large diameter leader to your main line for surf angling?

I have been using the albright knot, but it damages the front eye of the rod when I cast to a point that it damages my main line. My main line is monofilament to a fluorocarbon leader.

Is there a better knot to use, or should I be doing something different?

I would say reduce the length of the leader so you do not have the knot running through the eyes. What dia lines are you using of the knot is damaging the eyes when casting?

It is a shock leader, so it needs to extend beyond the eye as I cast 4-6 ounce weights depending on my type of fishing.

The main line is Double-x high abrasion .30mm and the leader would either be between a .50mm or .80mm depending on species targeted.

I've been casting 4-7oz with a 0.4 mono main and 0.9 leader when fishing in the bricks on the albright knot and have never had any issues.

Is this a new problem? Are you new to this knot? New rod with small eyes? Possibly try and practice to get the knot as small as possible.

New to the knot, yes. I could possibly practice on getting it smaller, altho I did it on the minimum twist I felt comfortable with.

The rod does have a small tip eye, but big enough for the knot to pass through effortlessly.

I will take your suggestions and re-evaluate my tackle to see where I can make adjustments.

Bimini twist in you mainline to create a loop. Use the double line from the loop to tie a back to back figure of eight to connect the leader. If you search the forum I'm sure there are in depth tutorials

this ties to leader via various options, these have worked for me..

Thanks for the advise guys.

I still need to work on finding the Spyker knot, but I'm sure I'll find it here.

I have seen the bimini to figure of 8. That looks decent, even if you end up with 2 knots seemingly. But I assume they end up smaller.
