Langebaan Lagoon Marine Protected Area
Langebaan Lagoon is divided into three zones: Controlled, Restricted and Sanctuary. Recreational fishing is allowed in the northern-most zone, north of a line joining Beacons LB4, in Kraal Bay, and LB3, at Oesterwal. SANParks is the management agency (Contact number: 022-7722144)

Regulations specific to recreational spearfishing
(11) The holder of a recreational fishing permit endorsed for spearfishing shall not catch, disturb, land, keep, or control:
(a) any fish listed in the Prohibited Species list of Annexure 6,
(b) more fish than the bag-limit listed in respect of each species in Species List of Annexure 6 during any one day. Furthermore, there is an overall cumulative daily bag limit of ten, irrespective of the species caught and provided that this limit does not apply to those species listed here with no bag limit, and to those with a bag limit exceeding ten;
(c) any fish smaller than, or of a mass less than, the size-limit listed in respect of each species in the Species List of Annexure 6;
(d) any fish during the closed-season listed in respect of each species in the Species List of Annexure 6.
(12) The holder of a recreational fishing permit endorsed for spearfishing shall not catch fish or attempt to catch fish in an estuary.

As far as I understand you are not allowed to spearfish in the bay. The bay is designated by a line between North Head and South Head. That is pretty far out. Shore diving on the southern side is basically impossible. You can't dive from the shore between Yzerfontein and Plankiesbaai. Then you have the Recce base all the from there into the lagoon.

The Northern side I don't know well. Maybe between North Head and Tabak Baai, Im not sure.

The crazy thing is that you can dive everywhere from a boat as long as it is not in the bay. This is what I understood from talking to the West Coast Park rangers who are supposed to look after the area. I may be wrong.

I meant to mention that the waters in the bay are considered inland and therefore you are not allowed to spearfish there.

The currents in langebaan is super strong because of the intertidal fluctuations which also makes the visibility very low so wouldnt advise it in anycase.

Eckart how did you get your fingers out of that Catfaces gills? Had a bad incidence once with a sucker like that.

nice map!

I have dived at Jutten Island but it was during my commercial dive course. Lots of hotties etc. not sure if you can still dive there though? Also yellowtail  but not often. There are lots of dive spots on the right side of the mouth which is also good for  big hotties but not much else.

Does this mean we are allowed to spearfish at the kraalbaai house boats?
