I want to try get a kite in the air tomorrow afternoon at Macs for a cob or early bronzie??? North West predicted .... hope strong enough. Has anyone any idea of fish in that area at the moment (heard of cob around????)

Anyone out there looking to join me with kite fishing this season?? I have had some great success up to Struisbaai!

I have a new hand made release clip I need to test out also.

Hi guys. Have always wondered if kite fishing in the Cape(Falsebay) coast will work. Please keep this post alive. Should be interesting.

if you can get a livie out quickly that would just be awesome , how long for a bait to get 300m out ? you will cane the fish

Excuse my ignorance, but isn't kite fishing for kob a bit like shooting moles with a Barrett .50 cal?

You could always charter a chopper to take the bait out too. Or a microlight.

Just thinking outside the box here dudes.

Maybe even buy a skiboat to launch from the beach to take the baits out.
A decent 5m cat with 2 60's on the back should be perfect! You can take out quite a few baits with that.
You should even be able to get beyond the backline!

Sounds good.Bronzies are there during summer so I would think probably think november onwards maybe a bit earlier.it really doesn't take long to get 300m out and u can actually if the surf isn't to big let the livie stay in the water when u take it out.

Lol don't think it is overkill as u dropping ur bait out 300m and then fishing with ur normal tackle.

Here is a idea when u 300m out on this boat u rented why don't u just drop ur line over the side.Much easier.

is actually quite funny reading this post from a boat fishermans point of view, when we go down for the cob with the boat we try and get as close to the shore as possible because this is usually where the better fish is!

I have a mate of mine that catches a lot of fish from the beach in the summer months, he usually slides out a live harder and then throws another live harder quite close and wanna guess which one has caught the most fish and the biggest??? the shorter cast!!!

Im by no means shooting down your kite fishing idea, but most shore fishermen are always thinking that the further they get out the more fish they going to catch more bigger fish but i think whats more inportant is selecting the right spot and casting into working water or in the right "sloep" etc!

Mahi I do agree with u to some extent but I think under certain conditions like when the sea is a bit flat and clean further out the better.Plus I use my kite for shark fishing mostly.

Or when the sea is big and you need to get over the waves as nothing is sitting.

The problem with sending a bait out, using a kite, might be that during summer months the prevalent wind is the SE.

How will the kite perform with said wind?

Or will you just wait for a NW wind?

Spreeuwalle - SE wind is offshore if I'm not mistaken. Guys this is the same concept as fishing with a dingle hopper! Kite doesn't need new batteries either. Also you get days when the fish aren't close ! I've fished next to guys at macs that were taking their baits out with a bait boat. (Bloodworm 250 + meters out) my mate and I watched tv ! They got 18 kob between 2 of them all over 10kgs! Had a good laugh tho when the one rather unfit and large chap had to haul a smoothie in from 300+m.

kite fishing . or dropping baits with a kite is a nice way to get your bait out deep and with very little cost (na batteries, petrol or the chance of loosing a boat) and you are still only using nature to help.

I have done this a lot and often see other guys pack up when they dont get the pulls on throw and slide baits. I have had great success on non eds but will be focusing on eds this season!

NW wind all of Strandfontein and Macs...SE wind at blouberg - Veldrif( there has been many sightings of large sharks and the cob has been around the westcoast. Struisbaai also great with most winds - front and back!!

Lets build a social kite fishing group......

Yes that is the one thing about kite fishing that the wind has to be right.I normally take my kite with me when I go fishing and if I can kite fish I do and if I can't I don't.Its almost like just another tool in ur bag to increase ur chances of catching fish.Although I do often find myself hoping for some wind these days unlike before lol.The socail club thing sounds like a briliant idea.
SE at spreeuwalle is at ur back at an angle but should be able to get the kite out far enough.East is straight at ur back.
