Based in Australia, my options and information are limited. I am told Wind Song do not send overseas, so I have arranged through Big Catch in Cape Town to purchase from them on my behalf and send to me at no extra cost with some other gear I've bought. Must say their service is excellent, big thumbs up ::jest.

Just remember with the Falcon you need a very strong reel with preferrably 100kg Braid as mainline to carry the ferry.

It works best with 20kts + winds and try not use rigs / baits exceeding 350gr total in the minimum winds.

I also found that adding a 7m 5mm ski rope tail to the Falcon helps for stability, especially in launching the kite.

Thank you for the tip! I actually ordered their standard kite as well just to provide an option. I didn't realise you'd need 20knots for the falcon to be at it's best, but that's OK we often have that kind of wind here.

I wanted to get the Muller kite for it's tacking ability but Muller are moving and can't supply for a few months so I went with the Windsong.
Question - can you get the Falcon to tack into the wind at all?

Cheers!

The Falcon tacks very well and will fly in very low wind conditions. To get the optimum use of the ferry system you need Strong winds.

When the Falcon is a long way out it needs a good wind to keep the line from sagging under the pressure of the ferry sled especially if go you are using medium to heavy bait systems.

Hi Enigma,
thanks for the help.
I have a Penn Senator 4/0, would that be OK as a start to fly the kite?

Cheers!

Hi All,

I'm a mate of Simon's (werty0_0) I love surf fishing and am interested in giving Kite Fishing a go.

A few weeks ago Simon mentioned that he was getting together another order from South Africa (you guys have some good gear over there!) and was I interested in a kite? I expressed interest in a Muller kite and a Windsong Bait Blaster, but unfortunately Muller is currently moving premises and their products are unavailable.

I ended up ordering a Windsong Bait Blaster anyway, I'll have to get a suitable kite for it some day. I also ordered (and received today!) a kite from New Zealand, a Paul's Fishing Kites Flexiwing and Skyhook, so it will be interesting giving it a go.

Cheers!

Matt

Hi Doc Hoosen,

Thanks for the reply.

Jusr wondering if you have any tips for the kite, and do you use the Skyhook? In the next few days I'll take it up to the local field and start to have a play with it to check out how to fly and tack it.

Regards,

Matt

did they not send the mainline? for you? If not use 50kg braid and attach a live bait snap to attach to kite about 2m down the mainline make a small loop to attach top of skyhook. depending on whether you want pull or lift adjust angle of sky hook by making a third loop along the mainline. It is non directional and almost doubles the tack

Hi Doc Hoosen,

The line that goes between the skyhook and the kite was included, at the moment I'll practice flying the kite on a reel that has around 300 metres of 50lb braid.

The distance from the the skyhook to the kite is preset, have you tried moving it closer to the kite? Sorry about all the questions! :)

Cheers!

Hi guys,

I have 3 kites (windsong small, med, and Falcon with ferry.) They are going to be doing their 1st flight from the rocks at Mazeppa Bay. The ferry system looks similar to the skyhook concept, is it or can it be used in the same way. Is it possible to send the ferry out with the kite attached in such a way that it acts like a skyhook and does not fold and return, and would it still then be able to deliver a reasonable size bait using a release clip attached between the ferry and myself? The winds mainly blow parallel to the shore and a little extra tack would go a long way.

It works better at about 2m from the kite. 50lbs is good but if you will use it to drop baits go with about 80 lbs also go at least 500m braid mainline. I use 1000m 70 lbs

Thanks DH, I'll keep this in mind.

I guess one of the good features about the Flexiwing is the ability to fly in a wide range of winds as well as depowering the kite with the adjustable rubber band setup.

Matt

Trevour,

The Skyhook is specifically designed for it's own particular job, as is the Bait ferry. The Skyhook has adjustable angles to fine tune it for the application. It's an interesting thought though, could you try it and let us know how it goes? :)
