So me and a friend did a specimen session from Sunday two weeks ago till the Friday at a dam on the Lesotho border. We ended up with 52 fish in total, each getting 26. The average size was just over 7kg. We tried everything to get that one big fish but he never came around. I got my PB commen though. Very nice week overall.

So we Free State boys had a League at Zeppa this past long weekend. We arrived just as Duif landed his monster grey so hopes were high. We went straight down to the pots and saw a rag of bout 90kg landed. On my first cast, I landed my first Blue ray ever:?. Just over 12 kg but I broke my Rugged Extreme while landing it so I wasn`t in the mood for a pic at all. My dad then landed a bag on his next cast. I casted another lekker bait and had a pickup. A few minutes later, I landed a fish I took a while to realize what it was. My first Thorntail!!! What an awesome fish. This wasnt a monster but measured 111cm.

We were on after that almost every cast but all were small bags which is real tackle busters off the pots. Next day we went to the island and saw a guy on with a fish which was Tyrin with his zambie. We hooked a few small bags again but most hugged the rocks and broke us off. I landed this guy that was already tagged. Was free for 98 days and moved 189 km, negative 40mm growth..:?:?

Well our league started the next day so on the first cast, I landed this little rag of 170cm. A good way to start a league.

Rest of the day was dead. Next morning we started at the pots and on my first cast again, I hooked a bag and listen to this, the line broke off on the rocks in front of us but the next wave put my bag on the rocks in front of us, just giving me enough time to grab it by the tail and land it!! Once again, it was a 170cm bag.
I hooked another bag but lost it in the rocks. 10 minutes before lines up, I went tight again with a bag. The fish was on the rocks already when my line got tangled in some barnacles and snapped. I could only watch as the next wave took my 100+kg bag back to sea.:shock:
Well, that ended the trip for me. Going there again next week and hope to get my bronzie.

So we did another week at Zeppa and truth be told, hit the worst weather possible. We got one or two fish though. First day I finally hooked and landed my first half decent bronzie on my /7 I build 3 days before. Bites were thick this day and most of the time there were 4-5 guys on at a time but only only 3 fish were landed that I know of.
Behind me is my brother on as well.

My brother then landed his PB bag after a 4h10m fight as it was hooked in the left pectoral fin and just hanging in the current off the front of the island. Check her second dorsalfin bitten off a long while ago and just hanging by a piece of skin

My brother also got this bag off the island two days later. It had the most perfect skin I have ever seen on a raggie, a truely beautiful shark.

Thanks Fluke, was nice fishing with you and Wade, also learned quite a bit from the way you fish. (Stealing with my eyes);)

Lekker fish and pictures dirk. Ja mazeppa can be hit and miss sometimes with the weather. I'll be back in Early January for 10 days and giving it another bash there.
