Could Someone identify this eel for me , it decided to make mess of my trace . It took 10min to cut it free it survived and was put back. it was only about 40cm long i would not have liked to bring in a larger one.

Hagfish ....?

Not sure, did you get a good look at his tail? Did he have any 'feelers' around his mouth?

Myles - i think I Know Where it Is - the beach or point that you fished from faces Directly North - to Mhlungulwhane !!
that's a Meannnn spot for eds , as the one just North of mhlungulwhane - cracker point ,is renowned for it's size Crackers .
I have yet to strike gold IN the Kei , much to My disappointment , as i drive up ther with More anticipation than Bob Mugabe at one of his own elections , only to suffer bleak fishing days , Bad to extreme weather , clean water , strong gusts - and no fish ........... :(:(

Def that's exactly right. It looks North straight to Mhlungulwhane.

The guys catch some nice Blacktips and Greys on the north side of black rock, but apparently you lose a lot as they head out past the island and turn right around it and you're reefed...

On pushing tide in the evening, the big kob come into the channel between black rock and the cliffs - the last time we were there a guy got smacked silly by kob on live strepies.

Definitely a moray eel, although not sure of the species.

I think eels are the worst fish to catch and release again. Caught a 15kg congar eel on a big elf swim bait. Also with wire wrapped around it, took some effort cutting it loose, esp since they are so slimy and have BIG teeth.
