Hi there,

I am new to the whole kite fishing thing... Just recently bought a Mullers Kite and ferry system. I am very eager to learn as much as possible before I go try it out in December. Going to Glentana and surrounds.

I really want to target mostly edibles as my wife reckons I eat too much red meat and need to give fish a go...

Anyway, from what I gather on this forum is that Kite fishing is more directed towards non edibles... Is this the case? What do one need to do to best target the edibles with a kite system?

Look forward to hear from you experienced Kite fishing boys. ::tight:

Most definitely not.

It's ust the shark guys that do it a bit more.

I have caught, Kob, Geelbekl, Slinger, Poenskop etc with the kite while deploying baits.

I have also caught a big Cuta on a live shad suspended 2m below the water on a ballast bottle under the kite.

Any eds a skiboat/kayak will target behind the backline you can target with your kite.

Thanks Enigma. So I will be ok for eds if I drop just past the last breakers? My main reason for getting the kite setup was because a lack considerably in the casting business, and I mainly wanted to get behind the breakers.

Was thinking of using the kite to take out a nice spoon for cob. Here I think the ferry system will work great for taking out my spoon and me not having to retrieve the kite every time.

Thanks.

Yes also using the roller torller allows you to jig with the kite or use the kite and it's tacking to work a spoon left and right, underneath the kite

I've used mine to jig with, send the kite out over a reef and jig with a long rod and a 300gr jig, caught a Poensie

In KZN I rig a Mackie on a Cuta rig with a living lip, send the kite out 450m (Holding my rod and lure with me and the line rolls out on the troller.

Once the kite is all the way out reel the mackie out all the way to the kite so it swims out slowly and wobbles like a rapala. Once got a good Dorado about 300m out.

If nothing picks up then reel it out to the clip (suspended under the ballast bottle)

If the kite is tacked then simply let line out and the kite flies up and away with the wind, stop it and reel in and it comes in and down wind.

Now you are trolling 50-100m stretches of water. Caught Cuta and Bonnies and smashed by a suspected big yellowfin.

Then if no fish strike against the clip and reel the Mackie back in as a living lure.
