Hi Guys
Just few words about Tago.
For me that is the best fishing place on Vaal Dam , not only that , very safe venue too. For me safety is no1.
After discovering it , I become regular guest with my friend and our kids.
Place is clean , no broken glass around , plenty space between fisherman and lots of fish.
No passing speed boats or jet ski's - what a pleasure .....
Zorro - Zoran the owner of the place - what a great men! - always ready to help. Hospitality you don't find so often these days.
Now to go back to fishing - (members side - it is worth it )
We normally come at afternoon and sleep over night in our tent's. Night fishing between 19:00 - 23:00 can be very productive, so get some warm clothing as night's can be very cold.
The first thing when you arrive is to cast a rod or two with small hooks with sweet doe ( 50 - 80m) , that hopefully will produce few muddies or a small carp which heads are ideal for barbel.
On members side I went out with fish finder on the canoe and find out that there is channel around 170 meters from shore ( stand 61-70) where depth steeply drops from around 2.5 m to 4.2 - 4.6 m . The is the place where you should take your hooks.
My fish finder was showing high concentration of fish around the drop and the deeper side.
So, hook up muddie head and pull it with canoe all the way to the drop.
Do it also with carp rods. All larger carps we caught was in that area.
For larger carps , I will suggest strawberry boilie on hair rig , but also add some other flavored sticky doe, like molasses or caramel on the hook itself , which you can buy from Zorro on arrival. We had great result with molasses flavor also to mention that earth worms worked great too. I also think that are plenty of carp there and that they are not fussy and it will take any other bait.
What contributes to large amount of fish at Tago is that the water is quiet - no boats
and with hundreds of kilograms of food dropped from fisherman every day, it has to attract large amount of fish. No doubts about that.
After sunset be ready for the barbel run on your reel, alarm is must if you fall a sleep , what you may find later or in the morning is that all your line from the reel is gone...
The only little inconviniences as I may call it at Tago are Toilets and last 30 km of road . Toilets are basic but with hot water and shower and last 30 km to Tago is gravel road , not too friendly for cars with low ground clearance.
I hope this helped
Regards to everybody at Sealine & members
