Hi Shino,

Also did a stint at Tago over the weekend. AWESOME!!!

Got the small rods out for the kids and they made a killing on the muddies.

All and all round about 30 muddies from Sat 10:30 to Sunday at 09:00.

What worked well was a mature bomb, and dough made from Sprite and cake flour.

Dips we used was mainly Stawberry and something called Secret Agent.

The owner says that the carp is not yet on the bite, but that this will change sooner rather than later.

How to rate Tago??

Fishing 10/10

Safety?? Good

There are toilets with Hot and cold water, but thats about it.

Tight Lines

Will definately visit Tago again and Again

Best site we were on was the one before you get the big tree trunk.

Think it was stand 68, lots of Muddies came out on sweet dough.

Also had good run on Barbel rod.

Apparently any of the sweet flavours work well for the carp that seem to be waking up.

Good luck, tight lines!!

hey man

i've used spar brand sweet corn and found it to be better tasting that the koo at time's

in terms of it being more ripe and sweet and have had good sucess also on spar corn pits.

the only thing is that u can see koo has better quality maize than the spar.

and spar's consistency is not always the same.

Howzit Guys

Here goes my report

Got To tago at about 6:30am Saturday morning 26/11/11 pitched tents, got everything up and ready, we started fishing about 8am it was very quiet in the morning then i had a reel run at 11am caught a 2kg carp then the rest were all about between 1/2kg and 1kg we landed up catching between 11am saturday & Sunday 11am we landed 25 in total and my lighty caught the biggest of us all with his personal best a barbel of 3kg. We just got sun burnt heavy.

I will say that i will go back there again.

we mostly used tcp red & garlic dips that seemed to get them running.

Hi Guys

Just few words about Tago.

For me that is the best fishing place on Vaal Dam ,  not only that , very safe venue too. For me safety is no1.

After discovering it , I become regular guest with my friend and our kids.
Place is clean , no broken glass around  , plenty space between fisherman  and lots of fish.
No passing speed boats or jet ski's - what a pleasure .....
Zorro - Zoran the owner of the place - what a great men! -  always ready to help.   Hospitality you don't find so often these days.

Now to go back to fishing - (members side - it is worth it )

We normally come at afternoon and sleep over night  in our tent's. Night fishing between 19:00 - 23:00 can be very productive, so get some warm clothing as night's can be very cold.

The first thing when you arrive  is to cast a rod or two with small hooks with sweet doe ( 50 - 80m) , that hopefully will produce few muddies or a small carp which heads are ideal for barbel.
On members side I went out with fish finder on the canoe and find out that there is channel around 170 meters from shore ( stand 61-70)  where depth steeply  drops from around 2.5 m to  4.2 - 4.6 m . The is the place where you should take your hooks.
My fish finder was showing high concentration of fish around the drop and the deeper side.
So,  hook up muddie head and pull it with canoe all the way to the drop.
Do it also with carp rods.  All larger carps we caught was in that area.

For  larger carps , I will suggest strawberry boilie on hair rig , but also add some other flavored sticky doe, like molasses or caramel on the hook itself  ,  which you can buy from Zorro on arrival. We had great result with molasses flavor also to mention that earth worms  worked great too. I also think that are plenty of carp there and that they are not fussy and it will take any other bait.
What contributes to large amount of fish at Tago is that the water is quiet - no boats
and with hundreds of kilograms of food dropped from fisherman every day, it has to attract large amount of fish. No doubts about that.

After sunset be ready for the barbel run on your reel, alarm is must if you fall a sleep , what you may find later or in the morning is that all your line from the reel is gone...

The only little inconviniences as I may call it at Tago are Toilets and last 30 km of road .  Toilets are basic but with hot water and shower and last 30 km to Tago is gravel road , not too friendly for cars with low ground clearance.

I hope this helped

Regards to everybody at Sealine & members

hey guys , this last weekend i went to TAGO , was great really a clean and tidy place. the wind was a menace and the rain brought some good fish. used floaties and dough with toffee dip. how ever we only caught small fish. was it due to us not going deep?

Regards

Hi Kevykev,

Please phone Zorro first to check for space. Last I heard he was pretty much booked.

Best advice would be to go deep, use the following: Pop-up Strawberry boilie, Alien dough that Zorro will be able to sell you and Strawberry mielie.

Was there the weekend of the 6th, good size fish, got our rear-end kicked once again by a huge Barbel!!!

Revenge will come soon enough.

Tago has never dissapointed!

Hi Kevykev,

Came off unfortunately. Had one on a Sea rig with 19kg line, must have gone around some subsurface obstacle. Broke the line like it was cotton.

Carp head, for the BIG boys and a fillet for the juniors. nothing goes to waste.

I'll look into those gummies sounds like good idea, will add to the variety.

Enjoy the fishing and keep us posted.

TAGO KICKED ASS!!!! We found our new fave spot!!! :)
Caught about 20 fish or so, there was a hell off a windstorm on sat, affected badly, no bites really till sun mornin.
Caght a good few big grass carp (i think they called) looks lika pug of the dam lol! got about 3x 2kg ones. Caught a couple of 2kg mirrors and as we were packing up i chucked the rest of my bomb out with ma last row in and got a lekka 4kg.. :)
No luck on the babel, caught one punee one on fri night..

The mirrors (i think they called that) got huge random scales... Anyways- they were loving pink sweet gummies, xfactor small floats on a hairline rig with molasses dough we got from zorro (smallish bait but dont mind catching the smaller ones) Platties were a no go... and zorro never had alien dough.

Shot again man! was TIT!!!!
Will most deff be goin there again, the 30 km sand road dont seem so bad, so worth the boendoe bashing!!!::S
