Hi guys I was wondering if one of the more experienced anglers could help me out.I am looking at ordering my kite this week and was wondering which kite is easier to tack.I see the windsong kites are a bit cheaper so would rather prefer them. Also I know a lot of guys use kp reels for kitefishing would the 10inch or 11 inch be better?I am looking to go out 500m max.Plus I am only using the kp for the kite to drop the bait so wont be fighting any fish with it so I figured I wouldnt need a more expensive kp with a drag system on it?Any help would be appreciated.

Have a chat to ENIGMA. He has had great success with the windsong kites, which I ended up buying as well. Great stability, darable and cost effective. I.T.O. tacking, the Mullers might give you a couple degrees extra. But let's hear what the pro's have to say.

Have fun!!!

Finnor 30 OFC with 50lbs powerpro braid and 200m SEAGRAND 0.59mm mono - Serious T Bar power handle fitted. works like a charm especially if you need to send out and drop baits on your own. Capacity: 700m in total...way more than the 300-400m I need.

Cool man sounds like a nice outfit.Oredered my two windsong kites today, one large and one small plus 500m of the dynema line supplied by mullers kites.Cant wait to try it out.Still deciding on the reel and rod but leaning towards a kp reel.

dont go the kp route!
A normal multiplier is perfect. Have seen a 10inch just brake under pressure from the kite.

KP used here, loaded with Suffix Dacron 60kg and Dyneema 1500mtrs
The dacron loaded as a backing to prevent too much heat on the KP's spool as they do crack! So do the other large reels ~ see Def-e-nitions reel on another post in the Kite fishing section.
My choice to use this reel, its also a bugga to manage when it gets spinning, so a leather welders glove is an tackle bag must.

@psy have you tried a multiplier? was pleasantly suprised at the ease of using it? just less to go wrong when you starting out? The cranking power of a KP sure beats anything! Is that a wood inlay on the KP?

Wood Inlay methinks .

I've broken two reels already Trying to force it Back , to complete the Retrieve,.......................................................................

Just Rememebr folks - the Bigger the spool Reeling in, the More strain it Puts  on your Arms .

My smaller spool reeled in Longer , but the big One seems to tire me Out more than the Small One evver did

maybe it was that beer from the night before...lol
thats the thing, a big kp is heavy and tiresome! the cranking power is great but repeat several times....
=sore arms!

Wider circumference = your arms travel More .

If The smaller spool had a bigger HANDLE (cramped up My thumb ) Id've Stuck to it .

My Broo...that reel is from Mr Kahn, Durban 'n All.I was tempted to go with a Daiwa Sealine 900. Then my tjom busted his spool on his senator,so I went with the KP,however the Senator range are nice reels for the purpose as our other tjom Thunder will attest to.
Whatever floats your boat bud!?

Hey guys had a good look through this thread.

Is 60Kg line a must for kite fishing? or am i taking a risk using 36kg (80lb) braid?
i will be using a mullers seagull kite, which i have just ordered.

i have purchased a second hand senator 12/0 which i am rebuilding, hopefully this will be tough enough for the job?
otherwise i have an Okuma titus T50 as a backup for kite flying.
this will be fitted to a kingfisher poseidon strikeforce rod (30-50kg line weight)

what does 1500m of 60kg dacron cost these days?
thanks

Mr Muller supplies you with Dyneema.

Take it... its 1500mtrs.

Strong enough.

Dont waste the braid.

I backed my KP with Suffix hollow core dacron ~ also good enough to fly the kite with.

Hi Guys

I would like to invest in a kite and rig

Not sure what to get, any help

I am in Richards bay, which works better, the Muller's Ferry system or the Windsong Bait blaster

What type of edible fish have you guys been getting with this and the success rate

thanks

Using a taxi you need a different kite to the drop or fishing rig.

You need to have a maximum pull instead of lift and tack so you can facilitate the flight of the Taxi.

The Windsong falcon is perfect for this application and you'll have to fly it with minimum 45kg Dyneema or my preferred option 0.80mm mono.

As for the taxi systems the new large winged Bait Blaster is the best option.

Personally I still prefer the std square kites, and use them to drop baits, set them to deflect wind and tack and retrieving them is a breeze and as soon as the bait is attached it pulls great.

I have a 50cm which I have successfully flown all day in 85km gusting to 100km

65cm for 25-45km/h

1m for 7-20km/h

4 kites (1 extra 65cm), 3 tails kite rod and Tor50 in carry bag weighs less than 2 Tor 50's

Caught Geelbek, Santer, Yellowbell and Kob with mine lately...... apart from about 4.5 tons of shark over the past year.

The new Baitblaster is a new design with much bigger foil that Douw faster and stronger.

I haven't used the millers ferry so can't objectively compare the 2 but what I can say is the new blaster system of Windsong is a vast improvement on their previous system, like with everything else there is room for improvement.

Used with the Falcon and an 80m drop to ballast it is awesome forrepeated drops.
