Thanks

Hey nivi...here's some help for your questions on braid...kingfisher super braid is available in spools off 300 or 600m only..the price is from R350 to R450 dependin on length off spool an diameter..the quality is off the braid is good but if u going high quality them whiplash braid is the best..available in any length as it comes in large spools an filled 2 ure requirements...hope this helps...

Hi Nivi

Just for your info. I filled my Grandwave with 45 pound braid. The reel took 600m plus and additional 180m of maxima 30 pound monofilament. The one problem that I did experience is that after some time the braid must be removed and rewound, as it "shifts" on the spool and creates an imbalance on the spool. This will definitely effect your casting, as the spool vibrates. I have now transferrefd the line to my Saltist and the spool capacity is the same. Another alternative is to consider the " Double X " line as this is a monofilament line that is thinner with a higher breaking strain. It just depends on what your choice is

Btw did you remove the pin from the spool on your grandwave before you put the line onto your reel? I have personally seen the difference that tiny pin can have on balancing the spool at high casting speeds.. Though i have heard off the braid shiftin an causing imbalances also...

Btw on the topic off top line i have found that the double x brand especially the high abrasion has really proved itself time an again from lower diameter vs high breakin strain an resistance to nicks an scraps on rocks but mostly on its ability to stay intact after gettin stretched to huge extremes! So my personal opinion is that its money well spent...

Hi Master

The Grandwave with the golder aluminium spool does not have a pin.......actually I think that the shimano reels are fitted with the  pin. In any case I donot use the pin as my line anchor, I preffer to tie the line directly onto the spool.

Hi Trevz

The grandwave doesnot have a pin ( usually the one in the center of the spool used to attach the line onto the reel) As for the casting distance, this could depend on technique, spool tension, type of gear, trace and sinker weight.

In the grandwave there is a centrifugal break inside.....this is supposed to help with overwinds. This is two small pieces of weights that "throw" out when you cast. I have remove this from my reel and it has helped with the distance

Okay this is confusing..i have seen at least 2 gravewave 50's with the gold spools an black exteriors that came with the line mountin pin fitted frm factory..the same reel was also opened for service an it didn't have centrifugal brakes 4 the spool..so the only thing i can figure is that they prob had diff specs to newer or older generation off the grandwave series..thats my 2bits worth..any help?

Hi Guys,

If its distance you concerned about then having the best tackle in the world is not going to put out your bait at a distance. i have seen fisherman with the best of the reels, rods and line but battle to put out a bait deep when it counts.

It is all in the technique. My favourite rig is my trusty 400/3 basil manning edition with my SL30SH coupled with a 4-6oz. Distance is no problem. My lastest edition SL30SHV should be even better.(which i have not had time to try yet)

Your sinker should gracefully glide following an arc before it reaches your target point. In doing so you apply less stress to your line and reel.

It should most definately not go straight and low. Provided your equipment matches, you should effortlessly reach those far out sand banks.

Tight Lines......Hunters.

well i agree with you. the cast impacts on the reel. i have a habit of swinging the DROP and then apply extremforce. its not really good on the rellland line. a smooth arc on the cast with extended arms and follow thru can get you the distance. i have a mate who fishes using an sl30 and a saltiga 30 using 19 pound Double X ( very thin diameter)fishing for edibles. he comfortable played a 19 kilo duckbill using his saltiga 30 with th 19 pound line.

Very true words blade...the best tackle in the world is gonna get u nowhere if u dont know how to use it..an being able to put your bait on or beyond the far out sandbanks is wat counts when the fishin gets quite..there is a nice write up by red eye somewhere else in the forum..very handy to someone learnin to cast.. Tight lines guys..an pray no overwinds...
