A mate of mine made one by welding two stainless dinner plates/bowls from a prison together adding handles and spindle look pretty cool.

My Father was the manufacturer of the Stainless KP's, he started his business with all marine grade fittings/railings and the KP's.

The company has since moved over to industrial mining supply and they dont have the time to make the reels any more, although we still have the jigs/press moulds etc and have made a few repairs for the guys that still use theirs.

My father actually has got a few Billfish with his and various other large Pelagic fish, ill see if I can find any photos..

Bennie, The reels were lighter than the fibre ones, the 2 plates/ disc's where press rolled from stainless plate with ridges and contours to give it strength. also a pattern was cut out for "Spokes" to save on weight.

These reels last a lifetime, I have used mine delivering boats all over the world, many many trips up to Mozam etc for the past 16 years and it is still as the day I got it. My fathers few he uses on his yacht has seen 3-4 times more use and again still in perfect condition. Nothing to rust and seize, Vesconite bushes. We used a old flip flop tied to the shaft as a breaking pad, this allow's us to set the rod up for trolling and leave it unattended. There have been many many fish over 30KG caught with these reels.

Problem is now the factory set up has changed and we do pretty much straight production work and dont have the time to make these smaller items. We regularly have the commercial, or other fisherman asking us to make just a few more but its just not viable. Also remember that we talking old school 1:1 ratio reels they were meant to Last, so were mostly sold to the commercial guys, once they had 10-15 reels on a boat we didn't see them for 5-6 years.

Ill dig out some photos and post ASAP so you can get an idea of what they are like.

Spoke to my father regarding the spares which are still left, he will check how many side plates we still have in stock (we press rolled whole batches) and then give an estimation on the costing for one of these reels.

Also they came in 2 different sizes, the last batch I know where the wider spool so only those would be available but ill take some pics and dimensions etc if any one is interested.

Update shortly..
