I visited BAT centre this past weekend. What a disgusting place to take your 5yr old grandson. 'Siff' to say the least. Unfortunately 99% of the people that go there have no access to internet to follow threads like this and are not one bit concerned, they just leave everything there and go home. If we just had some form of policing, honorary officers, angling forums, angling clubs, give us authority to spot fine people, confiscate tackle if they have no money, SOMETHING has to be done. Stop the drinking in public there and you are one step closer.

I agree with you, hardfisher. Bat center is in a state. I've been to South Pier recently and the same... in a state - filthy even the beach where the gun houses are. I have also noticed everything goes in the bag. One oke had half a sack of juvenile blacktails, all around 10cm. he bragged about how he hooked them with brown bread. "All orders, Boss.... alll orders",,,, he bragged.

I wonder whether the KZN subsistence forum would organise a harbour cleanup, educate anglers on fish regulations and enlighten anglers on conservation issues. Instead of organising more rallies to gain more fishing grounds.

That, sums it up perfectly.

The sad thing about all this litter is that the authorities know this type of behaviour is taking place yet cease to do anything about it. Yes those of us that do practice a good code of conduct when fishing condone and try to promote cleanliness at the waters edge. What we really need is a few stiff fines and some embarrasing comunity service put in place. Back in the day when I fought for the Beacfront piers, I reccommended the above..... I was asked who was going to police this?

It wont be long and it will all be closed again.Unless the so called subsistance fisherman educate those within the group that are littering not to do so.

Remember these words. Just like the Soccer world Cup was used to stop the fishing on two of the three New Piers that were opened for Angling. The harbour authorities are waiting for an opportunity to stop fishing again.
