From what I know, there hasn't been any cathes of tuna in the last 6 or so years. Very seldom to the tuna come that way. When were you planning on trying for it in Mossel Bay?

Lots of skipjacks and bonitos around that time of the year, although I have always been of the opinion that if someone was to run south from Mossel Bay, that they would fine some tuna. Never had the time to go and look for them. If you catch any of them, let me know.

Will get tuna off Mosslebay but the current and deep water is too far out from there tuna do come in to the bay from time to time think last time that I know of 4-5 years ago.

Hi Couta

How far south is the current & deepwater?
The little yellowspot on the screen is around 30nm from Mossel Bay. The current is very close at the moment. Usually it is around 50-80nm away.

Which site do you visit to get thermal imaging of oceans Greenhorn

Select the date left top Corner, then play around with the numbers and plot. A bit difficult in the beginnig to plot the image, but once you've figured out the numbers, write them down for future use.

Try the following numbers:

N    -28
E     29
S    -32
W   33

I believe Durban is then sitting at 30 S and 31 E on the image

The warmer water is now 58nm away from land. This is where the current line usually sits.

Thanks Greenhorn.

So, 58NM is way too far for me to run! LOL!

But, if a warm spot would get into reach, I suppose one could go and try.

How updated are these SST's?

58 nm =107km you need a serious big boat if you want to do that especially in this area as the weather can change in a blink. If you want to catch gamefish rather stick to garrick, yelowtail and bonnies.

Good afternoon guys!

I know this post is from a while back, but I believe it is still very relative!

Bought a boat last november and fished the mosselbay area in december. Caught a few good eds, but no luck with the game fish such as bonnies and skipjacks.

Wil be great if someone can advise me where I can catch these elusive mosselbay skipjacks...

thanks guys
