Grunter Top water Lures

Thanks a lot! Caught two nice grunts (61 and 62cm FL) on topwater this weekend (both PB's on topwater for me).

Agree with what you say, all the fish I have caught was on ultra slow retrieve with loooong pauses.

Had quite a lot of success with the pink skitter V when I started off fishing this way (caught a 59cm grunt on my first session), but the lure got water in, causing it to lie vertically in the water, and the grunters showed no more interest. Switched to a x rap walk and blanked for a weekend and a half. Within 15 minutes of trying with a skitter V (not pink) again I had a grunter on the line....

Well done Houtarm Sir,

As was earlier mentioned, they arnt the easiest fish to target on artificial and in one weekend you beat my pb twice over lol, mine being a modest 60cm.
I have also found the skitter v to be the ultimate for grunter. Got them on xrap too but skitter is the one.
I have seen more than one rapala get water logged. Not what you want to see on a R200 lure but these things happen.
Awsome catches there sir,::tight:

I want a new pb grunter now too:X^^..

Found a waterlogged rapala, trolling lure in Gamtoos once, washed up..hooks long rusted off and paint long gone, gave it a coat of spray can sardine blue and silver and took it to a tropical island.. Oy vey! The fish would not leave that little sardine from the gam alone! It caught so many wahoo! My 2cs..Sometimes old waterlogged lures work, but not for grunts obviously!:hyst::hyst::hyst:

Thanks Huntagrunt, ja was an great weekend with the Boks win and the two nice grunters. Been having more success this season on the lure than I had last season with mud prawn only....

Haha yes Dr I have kept the pink skitter, sure it will still work fine for leeries where it won't sit still vertically in the water as I'm retrieving constantly.

Is there an definite advantage using trailer hooks when fishing topwater lures for grunter? I've just been fishing with the factory trebles, but see lots of guys on social media using the trailers, though many just stick to the trebles as well.

I'm referring to the two small hooks attached to the back ring of the lure with a short piece of braid/dacron, with feathers attached to the hooks. Normally the front hooks are kept treble. I see they call them "assist hooks".
