And anything else that may be required to do a Swim Biat.

I would like to see some new swim bait trace posts, i know members like Trophy and Misguide have posted tutorials on swim bait traces, but i am sure these traces must have evolved by now, the guys are always making tweaks and changes to their terminal tackle to improve on it

A 30 Torium or 50 Diawa just dont hold enouge line.

Spoke to Enigma and he reckons that the Purglass 350/7 and 350/8 are the perfect swin bait rods.

Will be getting a 350/7 soon.

Alot of guys rate the Shark Extreme Heavy to be a very good rod for the job.

I have recently ordered one from Brendan at Gremlins, its the 12'8ft, with the shorter base, rated for 9 - 12oz, specifically for swim baits, paired this up with a new Tyrnos 50, a bit overkill I thought for the application, until Whaler posted a picture of a friend of his that was being stripped on a Tyrnos 50.

Anyways, this is my kit for now and i am sticking to it, hopefully i will be able to break it in soon enough

The shorter the rod the less leverage the fish have on you.Use a marlin rod and tyrnos or something.We hooked 50-60kg bronsies on rocky bank with a mates stand up heavy tuna outfit , ag nee wat the bronsies game flying in.Offcourse 150kg plus models will be slightly different.

Go as heavy as you can I would think.If you want a pic of your fish and not just the thrill of hooking it , which is shortlived.We call it fishing not hooking.

I think something like a Torium 14 or SL30 would be good reel wise. I would go for the Torium because of the extra crancking power. Line would be 40-50lb braid with a .50-.65mm leader and a short 20-30lb carbon coated steel bite trace with a 6/O Bandit longshank should be more than sufficient?

Rod wise I would look at something like a Shimano Exage 110H or 100M is you wanted a more sporting fight?

It seems like if a lot of line capacity is very important for Swim Baits. How much is required.

It seems like if the Purglass 350/7 and the Shark Extreme Heavy is in a very similiar class in casting weight.

Line capacity is still an issue, some guys having more than a kilometre of the thick stuff and still running out of line

It seems like if the only option is to go for a offshore reel like the TICA30 that Abaddon33 got or the Tyronos. Something with a strong drag and something you can load a mile of line on

Yes i have realised that, i got myself a Tyrnos 50, got some advice from another member and spooled her up with 600m 80lbs whiplash, and instead of 600m of .65, i managed to get hold of some doubleX .64,(thanks to steve M), and i stuck another 600m of the .64 on.
I reckon the .64 is going to do the job, its rated at 60lbs, or 27kilos, and i know double x is brilliant in the high abrasion department, and if you look at lines like .70 maxima, it is rated 23 kilos.
I know it is more about the thickness of the line being used, but i beleive i have the best of both worlds here, the excellent abrasion properties of .64 doubleX, as well as the added strength from the 27kilo rated breaking strain.
Will only find out in summer

Ok, I know nothing about swimming big baits for sharks but I have a theory. Don't you guys think it might be a good idea to put a little less topshot on, and then make the last 100m of line something thick like 1mm maxima leader line.

The 1mm line should have a lot more drag in the water, tiring the fish faster. Exactly the same concept trout fisherman use.

my setup is tld 50 met 1000m 80pond braid op dan so 150m .80 lyn op met een van my ou haai stokke wat n stukkie afgebreek het,ek het die setup al 6mnde en het nog nie iets geswem nie want ek swem my ase kleiner as 20kg met my trini 50 maar moet nog iets behoorliks uitkry,my pb is n raggie van 80kg met n sandhaai swembyt en n bronzie van 100kg op n23kg grey,al raad wat ek vir ouens het wat dit wil probeer is om eers te kyk of jy dit sal kan handle sit so 100m 0.70 lyn op n groot katrol maak dit aan n bakkie vas en laat die drag sy werk doen jy sal vinnig besef daai dik lyn met n groot katrol is nie vir almal nie,ek het ook vir my n harnas gemaak die deel wat om jou lyf kom se maak is bandit,ek het dit by midas gekoop en die deel wat jy aan jou katrol knip net n bietjie sterker gemaak,die harnas werk regtig lekker en sal jo arms spaar in daai 6ure fight.My pesoonlike mening met jo voorste stuk lyn is dat jy so swaar as moontlik moet gaan as jy in die transkei wil swembyt en bietjie ligter na so .65-.70 op die strand,ek het die naweek n bronzie vir 2ure by mazepa gespeel toe word hy skaars 50m van die kant af geeet so jo swembyt hoef ni 400m in te gaan in die transkei nie.STERKTE
