Dusting off the rod and reel looking for fishing spots around Strand/Gordons Bay

After about 8 years and finally having gotten over the loss of many sinkers cast in vain by the East London coastline, I am currently staying in Somerset West and looking to get back into fishing.
What would be the recommended spots/areas around Strand/Gordons Bay?

Secondary questions would just be for any other tips or advice for fishing the area. What can you expect to catch this time of year in the area? Tips on safety in the area such as areas to avoid as I've heard Strand can be quite risky. Any fishing groups worth getting on for the area? Weather conditions to look out for more favorable chances of picking something up? Honestly any and all information for the area would be highly appreciated.

Lastly I'm interested in trying lure/softbait for saltwater fishing for the first time, is that a bad idea for the area or worth giving a shot?

(Note: Ideally targeting edibles but I also know beggars can't be choosers so if they're in short supply non eddies would also be on the list after eddies)
Thanks

@Blackwolf winter you can target the galjoen etc, but summer on the reefs is more productive I believe. I don't know how adventurous you are, but you can wade onto the reefs and fish there. Anything from shad, to kob, to the man in the grey suit. I wouldn't go alone and it takes quite a bit of kit to be suited to go out.
Summer you can get shad, kob, garrick all on lures or bait. Also youtube has loads of strand fishing videos
