Hi iv just recently bought a boat, and i have learnt that you need to belong to a club at the harbour in durban and need the necessary safety equipment in order obtain a port harbour entry disc. I'm assuming fishing skies would need to follow the same procedures in order to obtain a port entry disc.

I have owned a fishing skie for five years and have fished durban harbour and have had no problem with water police. I have noticed that they are more strict on motor vessels than they are paddle vessels. As long as the paddle vessel is not directly in the channel or in obstruction of any larger vessel.

I did not belong to any form of boat club at the time when owned my paddle vessel but now owning a motor vessel i have had to join a boat club.

Hi, The harbor police aka water wing that ride around on the rubber duck with the blue light are very strict and tend to harass guys fishing. They want to check everything and sometimes they are fine or they are in a bad mood and want to see everything.

Firstly make sure you have your skippers ticket, valid seaworthy certificate.VHF radio license, All safety gear, flares, life jackets etc. The bay craft license, fishing license, cracker shrimp license which can be bought from a post office, i think its under general bait.

Unfortunately you will have to belong to a club as the safety officer from the club will issue you with the relevant documents once your boat has been inspected by them and deemed "roadworthy" for the bay. Its a story but worth it as the fines are heavy for non-compliance.

You should belong to a club in the durban harbour area in order to use your ski in the bay u could take a chance an go with out belonging to a club. If they do pull up Next to u an u have not joined a club the could fine u and take ur ski away and impound ur fIshing equipment.

just y 2 cents but do cyclists have to have a licence for their bikes and have to belong to a club to be on the road.does the road inspectorate check the bikes before it takes to the road. With club membership, safety equipment, harbour licence, safety inspection we are the hardest hit.Like i said just my 2 cents.By the way i also cycle
