it has alot to do with the dam itself. how deep it is, how dirty and poluted it is, what the bottom is made up of, how many plants are in the water, how much sun it gets, how big the dam is.

most carp from dams in the benoni area are darker and almost black.

Also the different strains of carp. Think of it like guppies. Guppies are guppies but there are many different colour variations, sizes and shapes. But yes, the quality of water also has a lot to do with the darker variation.

Yeah - agree with the above.

You find this in bass too...depending on the make-up of the bottom and clarity of the water - sandy bottom & clear(ish) water = brighter/shinier fish and dark/muddy/thick vegetation & dark(er) water = dark fish

Hi guys, not too sure if its only the conditions of water or make-up of the bottom as I have caught many, many Carp over the years and have never seen a Trend in this regard. I have caught almost Yellow/Bronze Carp and 30 mins later almost Black/Bronze Carp from the same swim. I feel its a bit more genetic rather than environmental.
