Casting Distance

Hi All,

So I got my new rod and a multiplyer reel and yesterday decided to give my new toy a test run. I was on a rugby field and casted a 3 ounce sinker just over 100 meters with the spool break reasonable tight as I am new to casting this kinda setup.

My question is would this be sufficient distance or should I look at tryning to get more meterage our of this setup. I am sure if I loosen the spool break a bit I would get better distance however I would also then get more overwind. I am going to target some edibles in march on Illovo beach, so any advise would be welcome.

The rod I have is a 12foot Sensation Uptied with a /5 rating and I have a PFleuger Contendor G50Sh reel. This setup will be used may be once or twice a year if I am lucky.

Thanks guys

I dont want to burst your bubble but casting a sinker alone is easy, make a trace and tie a piece of wet rag to simulate bait and try again,if you casting bait and sinker 100m thats bloody good enough for sure

Thanks, I will try that, must admit it is a bit strange trying to cast with this outfit, However I must be doing something right. I will take your advise and try again this weekend and then measure the throws and work out the average.
