below is one that i posted in conventional, this a more appropriate place for it to be...

lets see what other guys can come up with...

my twist on a rietvlei rig...

should any part of it fail including the main line the sinker/bom and second hook will easily come free...

p.s. excuse the paint skills

okay, the idea behind carp safe rig as i understand it is that if a fish was to break off during a fight for whatever reason it, it should be left with as little chance of getting snagged as possible, in the above rig all end tackle will be free from the next if any brekage should occur, not mentioned in the above is that the hooklink line should be of a lower breaking strain than the mainline.... so should a carp break off on the above rig the most that it will have in it's mouth is a hook with about 10-15cm of fishing line and maybe a swivel but that should only occur in a case where the is knot failure...

oh i see

yip, the sliding rietvlei is as safe as we can get as conventional anglers but then the specimen guys wont agree. the most important part of the rig is your hoolinks which should be as light as possible. it wont make sense if you use 15-20lb for hooklinks because it wont break.
hoolinks must be as light as possible

ja true, i have an idea for a vaaldam trace not sure how carp safe it is but will draw on paint and then guys can give there views/opinions or suggestions... always open to constructive criticism... oh and there must be no swivel attaching the mainline to the trace above the bom coz that would just defeat the purpose....

lol... exactly what i was thinking and rig it up the same way as the top hook on the rietvlei with the swivel running on the mainline then we soma call it the 'running vaaldam trace' and maybe a safety clip to attach the sinker on the bottom...

thats exactly what i was thinking except id have the hook above the bom holder, between two gummies and the bom holder vas at the bottom instead of running...

My trace which I adapted from R/S when fishing in rocks. The sinker can be replaced with bomb if not near feeding zone. There is also a knot in sinker line so that it will break if you get stuck, and you can still land the fish. The hook snoot I replace with braid when fishing deeper water. Make sure the hook is very sharp, sets itself. I use owner hooks, cant remember which size.

Hooks and sizes are up to you. I prefer size 2-4 for social and size 0.8-2 for comps.
