Hi everyone

Does anybody know where can you catch bluegill or is there a fishery that I can buy them from?I want to stock a pond with them.

I am not sure if you are allowed to sell them in SA, they are quite an invasive species. Think they are classified as an invasive species, why do you want to stock them in your dam?

What area is the dam you want to stock? Is the dam completely closed of from other water, for example a stream or river?

Other options are Vlei Kurper and Blue Kurper, ideally stock both, Blue Kurper keeps weeds under control

In that area it would be easy to get hold of kurper, but you will need to get hold of the correct permits etc.

Do you need a permit for bluegill?I can get kurper from hartbeespoort fisheries, does that need a permit.Oh and the dam isn't mine,I'm helping stock Elements Private Golf Reserve when the dams are filled.I already have quotes and they say that I may catch and release free. But first come the rains.:raine

Best discuss it direct with the Hartebeespoort fisheries. Kurper are a better fodder and way better suited to the Climate north of Pretoria.

The only area that Bluegill really thrive in RSA are the Southern cape and Western Cape. You wouldn't get a permit for Bluebill anyway as the NEMBA act states rather harsh dealings with the Sunfish.

I say this under correction but I think it is illegal to stock bluegill, fisheries will be able to tell you where to get the necessary permits
