Blue marlin Rod repair

Good Day

Any help will be appreciated.

I have replaced my reel seat on my blue marlin. ( No 8 years old ) and now i am replacing the lower grip. I am looking at putting on a type of rope like they did in the old days.

What i need to know is what can i use over the rope to protect it from the elements. Epoxy will be too expensive. Is there some type of varnish I can use to seal the rope.

why not just heat shrink?
works like a bomb. the grip is thinner which i like.

That was an option but then its to thin for me. from the main blank I neem ti increas the thicknes by 2.5 to 3 mm

Use that rubberised cork wrap? Thats about 3mm..

or put on a winn grip, they are normally around R250 for 96 inch grip

Then do it two or 3x times. it will still work.
we did it with my purglass rods where you hold it, the other lower sections are thinner.
