As much as I'm absolutely useless at DIY (I consider changing a lightbulb challenging), I have huge respect for the art of hand built lures and I always admire the talent and dedication top lure builders put into their work.

The link below was shared with me a couple of days back and I thought it's too good not to share on here. For those who don't know, Blaze Garage make some of the most stunning handmade lures on the planet and every lures is made by hand from scratch, no casting molds used. Enjoy the read.

Thanks for sharing that post bud. I'm a very keen DIY lure builder but have yet to try my first stick bait. I miss Bennie Jordaan's input with his lure building threads. I guess he's been busy with other stuff.

I have never come across the ebb tide site before... Yay :)

Cheers mate, the lure builder made this tutorial in the hope of inspiring other builders, so hopefully you take some inspiration from it. Ebb Tide is a nice store, just a shame they're in Aus, which makes shipping pricey.

The amount of work that goes into one of those is insane, I'd feel guilty throwing one of those works of art for a fish! Thanks for posting, definitely inspiring stuff.

Thing with fishing is the fish don't care, it is all about the action and the person fishing the lure and where they are throwing it and what they are doing with it...Imagine some fancy GT charter in the islands and everyone with their $200 stickbaits, nano rods and stellas, then some saffa rocks up on and proceeds to out-fish them with a little piece of cut-up breadboard, some wire and poured in lead and its cheap glued eyes even fell off after the first fish of the day. It could happen. :) My mate would outfish me with no eyes or colour on his plugs or a plain slab of tin..It seemed to me that the fish were like," oh this bait is blind and trying to get away, it's too much, I have to kill it!"

::rofl: You're too funny mate! You are right as well though...expensive lures are not a prerequisite for success and they don't necessarily out fish cheapies either. BUT, if you have the tackle addiction it is nice to fish those great looking lures. Until a long tom or a barra comes along and makes them look like that one-eyed blind bait fish you described.

Even if you think it's daft to spend mega bucks on a lure, you have to appreciate the dedication and art of what these guys are doing.

Ja, I appreciate it all the same..There is that japanese guy as well that posts youtube videos. The detailing is unbelievable, even down to the scales they make. You have to have a multimillion rand yacht to throw it off of though, it would be a crime to smash that paint on the rocks or get it stuck in some redbait ;) I think it is great, it keeps artists in work doing something they love and those that enjoy a single malt with rod in hand rather than a beer, well it gives them an alternative to the breadboard..until a wahoo swims past it.

Those lures look awesome - I wish I could make something like that...

I do however think though that the shiny bits and bright colours are sometimes there to catch the eye of a prospective buyer rather than to catch more fish.
