I am looking for a blank to build a 80lb Tuna Popping rod of about 8 - 9 ft that can cast 100 to 160 gr or something like that. The blank will probably have medium action and probably a 2 piece with removable but section.


Obtaining blanks from manufactures other then the two locals, has become a big problem. Is there any one out there that still imports blanks?

The US price on its own is expensive enough, and then you still add the freight.....grrrrrrr

The only other possibility is to buy a made up rod in a shop and then modify or re build it.

I have made my own rods for many years and don't know what to do now.

Purglas make excellent boat rods.

BGQ250-2 QT 250/2 Med quick Glass 2.50 m Medium
BGQ250-3 QT 250/3 Med quick Glass 2.50 m Firm
BGB250-7 S 250/7 Slow Glass 2.50 m Soft
BGB250-8 S 250/8 Med slow Glass 2.50 m Strong
BGB250-9 S 250/9 Med slow Glass 2.50 m Very strong

Bottom 3 are S glass. How castable they are for your application I am not sure.

I got smashed up by a submarine in December and Enigma is currently building me a custom Bottom rod on the BGB250-9 Blank, as far as I understand it it has a unlimited weight rating. I will be fishing it with 200lb braid.

Give them a call they may just have a blank you can use.

I have a spare prototype rod - butt joint from a factory overseas if you like you welcome to come pull on it ,its a beast spec made for tuna .PM me if you want to pop round we can always hackle out a deal

I have managed to obtain a 100lb Popping rod that will hopefully suit my purpose.
