Basic guide to catch CHOKKA (Squid) needed

Is it ok at simons town yo catch chokka without permit.

No get a permit, cheaper than a kg of chokka in the cape.

People have been catching the inkers till now..not stopped.

At least in CT and hermanus, KBay and simonstown from the side. But not now with the lockdown in place, no one except maybe the navy guys are klapping it? The commercial fleet up the east coast can still fish till the end of the month when the the commercial season closes. Sometimes we leave early bells for tuna out of simonstown and the seawall on the navy side is BLACK from the night before, then you know the chokka is chowing!
There are other places you can catch them from the side, I've done it to disprove non-believers, big bull chokkas.. From the side a casting dollie with the keel weight is key, I've caught them under the harbour lights and also in the middle of nowhere after lugging in a 12V LED spotlight and a motorcycle battery, to be honest you just need the jig to be glowing to draw them and a spotlight on the water is not necessary.

I just used a flood light, 20something Watts, 12-24v, waterproof type mounted on a light pvc pole stuck in a rod holder..I am not sure about if the squid are around in your area when, but with all fish they have a water they like and a temperature they like and they will follow the bait as well.

I have a lamp like that one, its an old gumtree post but ja one like that. I've used a DIY lipo battery pack from recovered laptop cells and a mini 12V motor cycle battery either or..What I found that the light on the water was not necessary, they are around or not, but when the floodlight couldn't charge the glow of the dollies anymore then they leave them alone. It was more the glow of the jigs.
Flood light got commandeered for the boat, works great..
