Aquaquad vs Jetski?

Good day all!

Want to get (seriously) into sea fishing. To start off with i want to look at a PWC.... I need something small and easy to move around yet dont really know if a jetski or aquaquad is what i am after...

The budget is tight as usual and an aquaquad looks like the path to take. Have read a bit about quads but cannot really decide?

I would appreciate any advice from you...((s((peed)

Never owned either but if you are looking for something purely for fishing my choice would be Aquaquad.
Reasons being, they are cheaper, more space you can stand up and walk around on it, far more storage.

You can choose whatever engine you want to fit on it.
You can fit a sneaker motor to it if you to use it on fresh water for bass.

My feeling is they are far more versatile for a vessel that you just want to use for fishing.

Great thanks! My other question will be fuel efficiency? I know 4 stroke is the way to go but how does 2 stroke compare they ate cheaper...eish its that budget...

I think you would fit anything from a 30hp to a 50hp and on this size motor don't think fuel efficiency is that much of a difference.
You must bear in mind where you are going to fish as 2 strokes could become a problem at places like Sodwana and Videl.
If it was me I would bite the bullet and go 4 stroke you would get your money back on resale.
Very little demand for anything with a 2 stroke at the moment.

i have a aqua quad clx with a 50hp motor.
it is a good solid fishing vessel, very stable.
can take two comfortably. but space is a isue, tackle wise.

but since my family wants to go out with me, and 1 at a time aint working, i had to upgrade to a bigger boat.

so mine is up for sale.

and i am also close to you.
i could arrange for a dam outing if you want to.
both vessels have there pro's and con's.

eventually, you still need to decide what to buy.

mine has a 23l fuel tank.
on outings at vidal it worked out to about 8 lieters or a r100 a outing.
so not too bad.
the most feul used on one outing was about 17 lieters.
trolled a few good hours.

with the space in the front, i normally take 4 to 8 lieters spare, all filled in two lieter coke bottels.

december i launched at st lucia and took a trip down to the jolly ribino, just too see "about 12km" going down was with the current and we were trolling, came back at speed, total trip spent was 5 hours, and only used about 13 lieters.

it all depends, how you handle the beast ear. if you pull it hard, it drinks a lot of juice.

Never owned an Aquajet, but did have a Zego with a 30 HP mercury 2 stroke, very simular I believe.

Zego Pros

more space, better fishing platform

fuel efficient

seats 2 confortably

stable

very easy to launch, recover and clean

Cons:

Choppy sea's were a problem, had to go slowly to navigate the "rough weather" (1.0m swells). was only comfortable going out 800m or so.

got very wet riding it.

"very bouncy" when anchored. (I got sick twice)

designed for 2 people max.

JETSKI (fx cruiser ho)

Pros

Extremely Stable

handles rougher weather. ( but then I only go out to 5 miles)

Less space, but can be "fixed" with the fishing addons

Reasonable efficiency.

Can double as a "toy for family fun"

stable at anchor, (due to the hull design)

can tow a skier, tube. (easier to sell to the wife)

Cons

Still exposed to the weather.

Given the option I would probably go for the Zego/ Aqua for rivers, dams or protected waters and the Jet ski for open waters.

Good answer, something else to consider is the ease with which a flipped ski can be corrected. Has anyone flipped an Aquaquad?

yip, did so.
coming out, my brother pulled the safety switch accidentakly, was in mid break in 3.9 meters of swell.

op die eerste trip nogal.

but when we got close to the beech, we deflated the one side "pontoon x 2 chambers"
then we overturned it.

dit was nogal baie maklik.

ok, so we got it back on the beech.

the cleaning of the motor took about 45 minutes.
then we started it again.
drained all the fuel and found no water contamination.

back in the ocean we went, had to catch more fish.

ok, so the cleaning of the nmotor went quickely.

last year a guy flipped his jetski at vidal.

seems like there is a intercooler or something on it "super charger???"

they had to drain the whole thing.
had to change oil twice" and eventually after 4 days, did not go to sea.

i am not here to bad mouth jetski's, they are goiod vessels, but do have much electronics and much more can go wrong.

you still need to make the decision what you gonna end up with.

and with my 50hp, i can tow a skier at the back with a big smile.

Hi Praised 1. I have an Aqua Quad CLX and can assure you that this is a very stable fishing platform. Can take heavy sea and with my 4 stroke motor, I can fish whole day on one tank petrol. I do not think that I will be able to fish out more than 20l in a day. You can rig it very well - see my pictures below. I think I will rather opt for a  40 motor. The 30 is ok for 1 up but for surf launching 2 up I will go bigger.  You will also note that the pontoons are covered by the fish bags to protect it from the sun. Al in all a fantastic fishing rig for both fresh and ocean. Very easy to launch by one person. The mainetenace cost also very low on this type of motor. I do however take extra care when landing a fish. This is the only negative in my mind. I get 40km/h max and this is good enough for me. A jetski is double this speed. Contact Honda Marine in Pinetown. Very friend;ly service and they can arrange a test drive.  Hope you come right.

Not good sea sick. A lot of sharks and the water was very "off" for 2 weeks. Hope the water turns good for the Durban Ski Boat comp !!!!! There will be a lot of boats and sharks around. Not a lot of cuta came out this year. You will have to run very far to catch cuta this year. Bait is not a problem - just the sharks !!!!!  Have been lucky with small tuna and dorado 2 montsh ago.

I love your boat! I am busy buying a aquaquad ute, and some of my friens are very sceptical about the sea capabilities! I want to beach launch my boat, go through the waves and fish about 800m in. What tipe of swell can this boat handle 1m, 2m? Do you anchor your boat when you fish?
