Alberton - Fun Fishing

Hi there Gents.

This venue truly is one of the better hidden honey holes around. In short. Lots of fish, and extremely safe! I did about 10 sessions there during july and August. Due to academic restraints my sessions couldn't last much longer than 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours. And each and every time I fished there I got a good couple of fish.

Fewest for such an session: 8 fish. Combined weight of 38kg.

Best session: 19 fish, combined weight about 12kg.

Keeping in mind that this is done in 2 hour sessions (max).

I've been nagging on Micks to join me there but something always comes up.

Anyway, in short, great venue with lots of small and big fish!

I have fished there many times in the last few months and have never failed to land at least 3 on any day. I find the best stuff to use is brown bread with a bit of vanilla essence.

On my last trip there, the guys next to me pulled out about 20 fish in 4 hours using pap.

I have found that this venue relies on simplicity.

Simplicity = Success.

My standard technique there is as follows:

M1,5 sinker, 0,8 hook, 7lb hookline.

The heavier sinker is to aid in setting the hook as the fish has extremely hard mouths.

Hookbaits should be as small as possible. There is 4 options:

1) Extremely small and fine dough.
2) The smallest float you can find, along with a small piece of dough backing.
3) Just a plain float.
4) Half a mielie.

The smaller hookbait presents finer causing the fish to pick it up faster and more aggressive. I do however need to stress this part. When using a small bait you still need to be comfortable with the bait and have confidence in the size thereof. Simply as confidence is the most important bait!

Then dips... I'd say is the most unimportant part of it all! All dips produce there. My personal preferences is as follows:

1) Vicks + Looti
2) Yellow Activator + Hasbeen.
3) Bass + Bliksem 5.

Then just fish the entire day on a single KOL. The smaller and more established the kol, the faster the bites come!

And then just an idea on bait presentation and size finesse: just add some dips ;)

Decided to go and wet a line on Sunday despite the howling wind.
Would have had an awesome time but the wind was HOWLING. Caught 10 carp and a bass would have caught more but the wind was too much. Managed to get the lighty on his 1st carp as well as the wife(she is now hooked and wants her own tackle::tight:

Used plain bomb but after a while skipped the bomb and fished straight worm and bunspice mielie pips.

Not a place for serious fishing but lots of fun if you want to wet a line.

What was strange was that i was the only one catching people around me were blanking. I can understand why some people have stated that they blanked.

Good morning Ladies and Gents:)

Did another quick trip to Rietvlei Yesterday afternoon. With the venue being quite packed I was basically forced to fish next to the reeds in the bass Section.

First rods in and managed a fish after 7 minutes.

However....

My right hand side rod pulled away and after about 2 minutes took my into the reeds and busted my up...

No worries, quickly get a new lead
er and trace on and get my line back in the water. This time removing the top hook of the trace.

3 minutes later I get another reelrun on the same rod and after a short fight I get busted up in the reeds...

AGAIN!!!

Switched spools from 7lb
to 12lb and modified the trace by putting on a nr3 daichi on 12lb hookline, instead of the 0,8 on 7lb hookline.

Got the trace in on the same place again.

The end result?

I got busted up again, 3 times... On 12lb. in the same reeds! The fish was just simply to big to land around that structure!!!

Anyway, ended up with 19 fish from 15:00 - 17:45.

Combos for the day:

1) BASS + FX
2) Kiana + Petit Janine.

Hookbaits that produced best was small plain yellow floats.

Its like shhoting fish in a barrel there. Brown bread, mielie pips, Almost anything works...Keep it simple and go with small rods more fun
