How much boyancy does that foam lend to your bait...Lyk ma eina vir my....

I found the more you compress the foam with tiedowns etc..The less it floats lending a bit of useless to the foam...MHO

I tested it in my pool once....

This works for me...keeping some of the boyancy with less compression to the foam...MINE and WORKS 4 ME

hmmmm yes that foam is only good for building the bait on. use a thicker piece of foam. I am not so sure these little "trap" hooks are efficient especially if they are not snelled, the hook is just going to pull the bait into a ball even if you cable tie it.

not having a snelled skelm hoek has its pros and conns..
remember, its a "bonus' hook- i prefer being able to adjust the skelm hook up and down the line, an give it on turn around the shank just to keep it in place.
on my last mission, i snelled the skelm hook... and got really frustrated not being able to adjust the skelm hook higher up the line for tjokka baits, and lower down for smaller fish baits. what i have found, is that when the kob takes on the top hook--it slides down towards the main 7/0 hook.ending up with 2 hooks in its mouth. sometimes hooked outside the mouth.
saying that the trace wont work because the hook isnt fixed, is the same as saying the pulley rig or sliding a bait doesnt work, because theres no direct contact.
thats what i believe in any case.

I dont like fishing @ nite with a skelm 4 1 reason only...

When you land that fish and drag it by the gills to safety..You don't know where that second hook is in the mouth...

I've witnessed 1st hand on 3 occasions what that second/hidden/skelm hook does when that fish decides to show you how much life is left in it by flapping....

yip, each to their own, you guys catch way more kob than I do so it certainly does work, it's just a personal choice, maybe I am paranoid cause I catch so few LOL!

Pylstert, I agree with you about snelling, only problem is that the baits are different sizes and that offers it's own challenges.

It's realy not a challenge other than an irritation to change traces ...Have traces made up with different snelling distance ...

Fish baits are normaly 8-10cm and Like Rean likes it chokkas @ 15-20cm....

That's how I do when fishing 2 hooks..

I am going to stick to one circle hook or one big J hook. I have tried the 2 hook thing and don't like it, don't see the need for a 2nd hook even with a long thin bait even a looong blood worm. I used to use 2 hook traces for sharks and have now switch to circles, much better hook up rate, when it's vas it is vas. Any case, my track record of kob certainly does not allow for my opinion to be rated as expert at all I now often use a pulley rig with a circle hook and it's amazing how many barbel I catch now LOL

agreed, amazing that some guys believe only in circles and some dont. or trace lenghts, hook sizes etc..
in the end-- it comes down to what you feel comfortable with--because theres nothing worse than having doubt in the tackle/trace/setup/bait/spot that you are fishing at the moment... that "always wondering' feeling...lol

"What if".........what if you fished the gully/bank down the beach. Dit is genoeg om my mal te maak!!!! Genoeg om die volgende dag terug te gaan en daai spot te probeer maar mens vang nie gister se vis nie.

ja manne was vrydag af valsbaai toe saam met mnr. maasbanker en eerste gooi toe haal die man n mooi 2kilo kobbie uit. ekt alwee 2 gemis en hyt nog n paar undersize gekry en een baar klomp manne op die strand maar baie undersize vis in die rondte.
